Turkis or Taiga

Hi,
My coupe a RHD Csi is in the paint shop completely stripped and ready to be painted, it was originally Turkis & I was planning to change the colour to Taiga which has always been my favourite colour.

I am now having second thoughts partly because I have seen a photo of a rather smart looking CSL on the BMW stand at a show and partly because of spoiling its originality.

I plan for the car to be a CSL evocation with no chrome bumpers, black headliner & it's already black cord interior, in my mind Taiga suits this best ?
Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated
Kind regards
Tom

If your car was originally one of the popular colors, Polaris, fjord, white, etc... I would say do whatever you want.

But if it was originally one of the rare colors such as Turkis, then I would definitely say keep it that color. It may not make a huge difference now but it will very soon.

i'm going to jump on the turkis bandwagon here. a rare color such as inka, turkis, taiga, riviera, ceylon, colorado, granatrot or golf ... i would leave it that color. turkis and black is a beautiful combination.

I would even say that if you really want Taiga, see if someone might have a coupe in one of the more common colors and if he/she might be interested in trading under the condition that they keep the original color. I know if there was an original turkis available near me I would certainly be interested in that.

I agree with Sanhu. Its yours to enjoy. If this is an investment, then there is an obvious answer suggested by other posters. However, if this is something more personal, then follow your heart.

Although I am partial to turkis, any color choice is nice - if done well. Even taiga and verona and ceylon and tundra . . .

And let's not forget Atlantik

If you are still undecided, perhaps Alex Calder can provide some inspiration. Evidently, he had trouble making up his mind.:)

Some great coupe photos here ! Particularly the Turkis ones, I am swaying back towards keeping it original now.
Please keep the opinions coming it really is helpful to hear other enthusiasts views.

I know its my car & I could paint it any colour I want & I like many of the bright colours from the period but I have never coverted Turkis particularly maybe because is rarer and there are not some many glamour shots of it to pour over ?

My biggest fear is committing a crime against a rare coupe

In which case, stay Türkis. Very rare specially since it’s the original color. Many would by a car to restore only due that that color.
The first pic is a friend Türkis CSI restored to condition 1. He bought it only due to the rarity of a Türkis CSI.

Thank you Keshav, great photos the CSL is the car I have seen in Classic & Sports car this week it looks beautiful.

I think Turkis really reflects light and appears different in certain conditions under lights it looks the best.

Taiga is one of my best loved E9/E3 colours but, if Iwere You, I'll stay with the original Turkis which is also rare and beautiful.

A perfect example of that is the turkis coupe in the bmw museum. For some strange reason they have different light color temperatures on that display and that car always looks different in photos than those taken outside in more neutral conditions.

More blue on the top, more green on the sides.

Tiaga is one of my favorites but I'm with a lot of members here, I would keep it the original color. Turkis is rare and beautiful!
