Hi guys
I am just wondering if anyone can recommend someone who reconditions RHD brake servos and RHD brake master cylinders
I have heard of Linwar motors in the UK
And I might use them to be honest, the only drawback of that is because of brexit I will have to pay 26% import taxes to receive goods from them .
Which is painful !!
Anyway
Does anyone know of anyone in Ireland that does brake reconditioning ??
Or someone in Europe that does RHD work.
I know that is a long shot , but it’s worth asking anyway.
Thanks again.

I did my own - I found the seals I needed and had the main body re-sleeved in stainless.

If you have no joy with someone in Ireland, let me know, and I'll dig out the info I have.

Okay
Thanks
To be honest I will be surprised if a place in Ireland turns up . We have used the specialists in the uk for this kind of work in the past.
I will keep my fingers crossed :)

Hi Bob
On your question about brexit :

Yes , now that the UK are no longer in the European community
Anything that we buy and bring out of their country has to be imported now into Europe so that means anything I need to buy has a purchase price , plus 20% UK vat tax then also a 26% import tax.
So it gets quite expensive.
Obviously personally it is a real pain as we were used to trading freely since the mid 1970’s
I do think it must be really difficult for the small UK companies to stay in business if they have lost free trade to a large portion of their clients across Europe
Our second hand car market has “fallen off a cliff “ here as a large amount of cars were imported to Ireland every year from the UK there was thousands of euros of savings by importing cars from the UK.
The cars were also nearly always higher specced and the roads in the UK are better so the cars would be in better shape.
You could get a 3 year old 5 series in and pay all taxes and shipping and still save approximately 5 to 6 thousand euros.
So all of that is gone now as we now have to pay 26% vat and 10% import duty.
So then all second hand car prices have risen due to the supply and demand issues
I wish there was a loophole , but unfortunately I have not discovered one yet :)

If you end going UK, PastParts is the place, they supply Linwar.
They made a good job doing mine.

You can always try Jay Stratton who is on this forum and the E24 forum. He rebuilds and also sells rebuild kit. Not sure what tax implication for returning from US.

Okay
Great, thanks for the info.
I have emailed both companies now to see what might be the best solution for me.
Thanks again

I am about to rebuild the brake servo for my 1968 1600. I suspect this is a very similar unit to the RHD cars based on my research. I actually found a second servo unit from another 1968 1600. Between the two, I hope to have good metal components. I will still likely need new rubber seals, etc.

Regarding RHD servos , If originality is not your top priority you could consider replacing the troublesome twin servos with an aftermarket servo designed for dual circuit systems.
I have fitted one of these to my RHD E9 and it functions perfectly.
Mine came from Stafford Vehicle Components in U.K

So you replaced your 2 servos with one from Stafford components UK,
Do you have a part number for this single servo, that you fitted on your E9
Very much appreciated

Both companies replied to my emails today.
There is a difference in price and timelines between both of them.
I am worried to just go with the “cheaper “ option as I have no idea what the quality of either companies products are .
Both companies are obviously specialists.
I’m just not sure which way to jump.
Has anyone got either a “past parts “ servo fitted or a “ Linwar” servo fitted.
If so could you share some advice or even photos please.
Thanks again !

Nigel at past parts is the guy you need .....

At BMW car club events and at classic car meets ,
Most of the BMW guys use past parts for their quality service
They get paid once and do the job correctly and no parts have to be returned back to be fixed again

I never go for the cheap or expensive option

I go for the best option ie recommendation by BMW owners

Hi Sandhu
That is perfect.
Apologies for using the word cheap earlier , I’m just a bit swamped at the moment with how many parts I have to buy for her.
I am delighted that you clarified that they are highly recommended .
And I think at this stage they might be the way to go.
Thanks again for your advice
It is really helpful and I can move forward now and get 1 more piece of the puzzle sorted.
Thanks

Hi guys
It seems my information was incorrect above.
I got clarification today , that if I buy parts in the UK for export to me here in Ireland, I don’t have to pay the 20% UK vat tax , so it is not as bad as I thought.
I have to pay 26% importation tax instead.
My plan this weekend is to get my master cylinder and 2 brake servos off of the car and packed up ready to ship them off to Past parts UK
The sooner I send them away the better as they are saying they might take 6 to 8 weeks to get them sorted.
