I wonder if a very gentle blasting with baking soda would work...my thinking being that the media would get into those pits and remove the dark corrosion but hopefully not damage the anodizing.

Just a thought, no direct experience.

Having slept on it, and doing a bit more research, this has come full circle and was meant to be. My original intention was to de-anodize the wheel, re-work the surface, and re-anodize. And that is what I now plan to do. I have been gearing up to do my own plating. And it turns out that most of the same equipment (different tanks, of course) can do my own anodizing. I am going to reinvent the wheel. ;) Will definitely post my successes (or failures).
