We have one on the E24 forum but I have not seen one here. I have the opportunity to purchase a partially restored 3.0 CSI euro and wanted to know where it stood in E9 food chain.

Sure, here is my take:

1) CSL BAT
2) CSL LHD
2.5) any car with no rust and a famous owner or story
3) CSi Euro
4) CSi restomod 3.5 tied with with Euro stock CS from California
5) 3.0CS
6) RHD non CSL
7) 2800 CS stock
8) RHD vinyl roof

To sort based on options here are my priorities:

a) 5-speed
b) Bilsteins
c) Alpinas
d) leather interior
e) period radio
f) manual sunroof
g) non power steering
h) upgraded AC
i) Hellas
h) Petri steering wheel

and the most important is color

i) Verona
ii) xxxblau
iii) Polaris
iv) Chamonix

Unless the car is for a limo fleet deduct 5% for either black exterior or red interior.

No offense intended, I wear my opinions better than my wardrobe.

I would take a few minor exceptions to Arde's list. i would have a place for a RHD CSL.

options would vary greatly depending on if you have one of the top versions, a very original car or a restomod. since i am one of the relatively large group of people that do not have an original car - definitely a restomod 2800cs with a 3.5L injected. so for me i would put the priority list as

1. 5 speed (check)
2. bilsteins with lowering springs (check)
3. alpina wheels (16" - check)
4. leather interior (not yet - will do it with scheels)
5. upgraded a/c (check)
6. LSD (nope)
7. sunroof (nope)
8. petri (check)
9. hellas (check)
10. non-powered steering (nope)
11. period radio (nope - don't want it in my restomod)

colors - big disagreement
1. atlantik / nacht blau
2. baikal or riviera
3. chamonix or polaris
4. taiga or inka
5. black
6. anything else except sahara.
10. sahara

1) Interesting colour CSL (Taiga, Colorado)
2) Rust Free car with 4 discs that looks amazing on a hoist and has original paint.

Here is my list

1) My coupe
2) All the others

Any other sequence would just drive me nuts.

I was thinking there are about 2000 cars in the registry, why not order them all in order of desirability. Would work wonders when it is time to price a car, or insure it.

Heck, Picasso produced more than 13.000 paintings, the number of coupes is tiny compared to that so sorting them in order them should be easy.

So adding to Jay's list here is the running order, feel free to insert yours and when we run into conflict we will nominate a curator:

1) HBChris

2) JMackro

3) Arde's Verona CS

With Stan's revisions.

1) CSL BAT
2) CSL LHD
2.5) any car with no rust and a famous owner or story
3) CSi Euro

To sort based on options here are my priorities:

a) 5-speed
b) Bilsteins
c) Alpinas (14" open lug)
d) leather interior
e) period radio (modified to accept iPod)
f) manual sunroof (electric OK too)
g) non power steering
h) upgraded AC
i) Hellas (with city light option)
h) Petri steering wheel. Nice but a good Nardi is OK too

and the most important is color: cool 70's colors! Tiaga, Ceylon, Colorado, Turkis, Golf

And now the "crowd pleasers)
i) Verona
ii) xxxblau
iii) Polaris (really, there are enough Polaris without changing a coupe color to Polaris)
iv) Chamonix / red leather

Steve, your coupe is anything but pedestrian. I doubt it is rarely washed. We have seen the photos.

I should have known this would be similar to ranking your own children.

I will get some pictures but this car has a beige leather interior, Taiga, Alpina 14's, AC. Owner has done all the body work on my other BMW's for years and what is left to do...

1)one rocker needs complete repair, other has been done. Parts are in hand.
2) engine supports need to be done, he has 2 new ones ready to go
3) Doors have rust along the top chrome and in corners at bottom, he thinks he can rescue them.
4) Rear fender lips with rust.
5) bumper rechrome, front/rear
6) all seats need to be redone.

Mechanically sound, other routine rust locations are clean.

My estimates on these
1) No idea, 2) 700; 3) 1000; 4) 1500 5) 1000 ( had Bavaria done for this price) 6) No idea.

Please weigh in on my estimates above.

Yes, we are in Lake Wobegon where all children are above average...

When the list done it will move up in desirability, at the moment 1) 3) and 4) have it near the bottom of the list just above a RHD vinyl top with Persian rugs for carpets.

Costs depend on location I guess. New leather seats front and rear could be 2k-5k from what I hear. Rust repairs imply a repaint, don't they?

I'd separate out the CSL City pack and the early really lightweight from the BAT

The "R"in RHD is for "Right"

...the rarest and the most desirable are the uber scarce 207 RHD csi's produced ... the one's with the faded blue velour seats are highly sought after ( allegedly ) . Lucky me

I must have the least desireable, but rarest E9 of all. A US spec drum brake car with a vinyl interior, automatic, bus wheel, no a/c, no radio and Bristol paint. It's all original except for the fenders, wheel houses, inner and outer sils and some of the floor. If it ever gets out of the body shop, I may get to drive it again.
