As I age, I think of all the cars I wanted to drive or own. I have been pretty fortunate to tick many boxes. 1967 Mini Coper S, 1968 Mercury Cougar XR-7, 1966 Volvo P1800S, AH 3000 BJ8 (still have that one BTW) BMW E9 Coupe, (so Lucky to have found a good one!) And so, while I click through the offerings in BAT, I am reminded of the Maserati Sebring that got away. I really wanted that car, but was too late. I still would like to add one to my "schedule of maintenance", and perhaps drive sometime, but I really like those Masers. What are you looking to add to your "stable" ?

Nice observations, and delightfully eclectic taste.

I hope to experience a Volvo b18 as well, but hopefully in the form of stepchild ES wagon.
I struggle with new cars even as daily drivers, so Id like to pick up a rust free E34 or E39 wagon and spend a couple years making it "as new" for my next daily.

I’ve had both the e34 and several e39 sport wagons. The e39 sport wagons were some of the best cars I’ve ever owned. That sort of makes you wonder why you actually sell good cars. I’ve want d to graft the Volvo es rear hatch and window on to one of my e9s. I think this would have made a way cool car. I’ve always had weak knees for touring models.

Wish I can add more, but I sold 3 cars recently as my garage space has significantly downsized.

And I'll be selling two more vehicles too (my G37 'vert and my Ram pickup probably).

Getting depressing.

Wow, so familiar! My favourite daily driver was my E39IT. made it to 339,000km. But the rocker panel rust and the dashboard lights won out. :( Drove that car every day for 10 years. Silver, with Style 5 BBS wheels. No better wagon.

These are the cars I'd like to add & have missed out on over the years.

Bugatti GP Type 35-51 have wanted one since I was 5.
1959 Ferrari Pininfarina Cabriolet was a trade I didn't make in 2000. Still kicking myself over that one.
Mercedes 600 SWB have wanted one since the early 1990s, everything else is a go-kart in comparison.
1934 BMW 315/1, regret not buying one back in 2017 in Monterey it had a 328 motor dubbed "The Green Hornet."
1932 Packard 906 Twin Six Dietrich Victoria once owned by my grandfather, literally priceless.

there is always a longer list than both space and money can afford. from BMW i would have to say M1 and 2002 turbo, but since i am in la la land, replacing my e30 m3 as it was the most fun BMW to drive that i have owned.

there are plenty of P cars that i would like, but a pre '74 911s would be a good place to start, but any of the air cooled 911s would fit the bill. for general driving, i would like a 944s2. but if we are truly dreaming, a Singer porsche.

the majority of the italian sports cars, i don't fit in so well ... never sat in the Dino 308 gt4, so glad to know that i could fit ... sitting in a Dino 246 cured me of wanting one of those ... always loved the beauty of that car.

i have thought of the gt40 clones, in particular the Superformance cars ... because its not valued as a real one is ... and might not be too afraid to drive it. just not sure that it would be fun to drive that often, unless it wasn't sprung so stiff.

I've lusted after a de Tomaso Mangusta ever since I first saw one in the late 1960s. Prices bottomed out in the 80's at about $30,000. That was as unrealistic for me then as current prices are today. :(

I think they are the most beautiful shape ever for an automobile...

Not sure how the thread got split, so I'll reply to the OP who started the discussion. Good topic @bluecoupe30! :)

Like most of us, I've owned many cars but always had unfulfilled dreams... in my case a '67 Ferrari 330 GTC or Lusso. The Lusso for pure style, but either are among the most usable Ferraris of the period. For someone that has always driven their cars as daily transportation, that's important. But sadly, those kept getting just out of reach, so we've resolved to pursue a different Italian. Which also happen to be extraordinary values as well, considering their build quality and technically advanced design. Mid-'60s Lancias.

For the past year I have been actively searching for a Lancia 2.8 3b Pininfarina Coupe. We've owned Mercedes W111 coupes, and everything in our modest stable is German: '64 VW Samba, '63 T34, '62 356S Notchback, '67 911S, '68 911 Targa, '68 Mercedes 280SL, '70 914/6 GT, '85 Euro M635, plus a couple of BMW 700s. Our pursuit of something Italian goes way back, but getting older re-focused priorities. Similar in essence to the 280 SE coupe we once owned, Flaminia's display conservative Pininfarina styling and like the big Merc, are easy to get in and out of. Arthritis sucks! So currently I have an agent beating the bushes in Europe and hope to secure a fine example by mid-winter. I think it was Martin Swig who said one should never own more cars than you can keep batteries charged for ready use. Good advice... ultimately, the sports cars will be sold as I get too old to drive them, and the right number for us is 7: a different car for each day of the week.

Anyway, behold the automotive equivalent of a classic Brioni sport coat:

I do like an E39
I drove mine for 10 years and I truly loved it , I eventually replaced it with an E60 and then an E61 and now I’m onto an F11.
I couldn’t sell the E39 , some day I’ll put her back on the road.
The only real reason I stopped driving it was the air conditioning stopped working and also but more importantly the price of running a diesel was a LOT cheaper and the road tax was €1200 for the E39 per year and a diesel E60 Bmw was only about €250 per year to tax.
Here they are head to head :
Some day she might see the road again maybe :)

I was looking for a silver E39it with a 5 speed but settled for a black 528i auto.

Still a great car, but the elusive silver stick shift might still be with me if I had not settled.

I'm thinking I might like to add a 1991 318is to my garage at some point.

As to e39s, I still have my 540 6 speed, but I miss my V8 wagon quite a bit. Great machine:

Right now, the only things I can squeeze in my garage are my:

- 55 Chevy Nomad
- 70 280SL
- 71 E9

If I had more room, I would have at least kept my 63 15w Split window vw bus.
