And trust estate attorneys will showcase this as Alan's very smart way of preserving and passing wealth in light of global instability, brutal capital markets, and rudderless economy stewardship. Valuable classic cars that do not work but could work will be a new asset class to consider.
To be clear, a valuable, expensive, and durable asset that appreciates, and does not depend on mortgage rates. Perfect.
Or perhaps, not...

i WAS A BIT OFFLINE
I REALLY DO APPRECIATE ALL OF YOUR COMMENTS AND ADVISE.
PULLING THE ENGINE AGAIN IS REALLY SOMETHING I DONT LOOK FORWARD TO DOING
THATS THE REAL REASON IM TRYING TO MAKE THIS ONE WORK.
FOR SURE THE BEST OPTION IS TO DO JUST THAT AND
GET A REASONABLE ENGINE AS THERE ARE SO MANY TO CHOSE FROM
IF INDEED I CANT GET SOMEONE TO HELP WITH THIS IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS
I WILL PULL IT SELL IT AND GET ANOTHER UNIT
I WOULD LIKE ANOTHER S38 -YET THAT BRINGS UP THE CONDITION ISSUE
I WOULD WANT A FRESH REBUILT UNIT -MIGHT BE QUITE HARD TO FIND
THEN I GUESS I WOULD BE FORCED TO GET A DIFFERENT UNIT
SURELY A REBUILT 3.5 SOMEWHERE.
I WOULD WANT TO GET AN INJECTION MOTOR INSTEAD OF CARBS
SEEMS SO MUCH CLEANER LOOKING .
THEN WERE BACK ELECTRICS AGAIN- SO FOR THAT REASON
CARBS WOULD BE SUCH A SIMPLER PROJECT.
I KNOW THIS ISSUE HAS GONE ON WAY TO LONG
AND I NEED TO FINISH IT UP BEFORE THIS WINTER.
HONEST THANKS FOR ALL THE INPUT TO HELP ME WITH THIS.

Carbs on the S38 is not an option?

Just my 2cents: as I’m currently into this. (s38 in my e9 resto with carbs).
Carbs on a S38 is a MUCH MUCH more difficult task than get a simple megasquirt/kdfi direct injection.
It starts with there is no adapter for s38 available. And in Germany there are maybe 1 or 2 hands full of people who can adjust carbs to perfect match the engine.

With kdfi (MS2) there is even a base map to get the s38 engine idling. Using the original s38 loom. Every „mid level“ Tuning company should be able to map this ecu. But indeed you have to bring some cash to them. Knowledge isn‘t free..

Here you go @aearch,

Listed as a 3.5L 24v last week. I spy 17” throwing stars so it is likely this is indeed an M5.

90 minutes from you. Can’t get any closer than that . Perhaps check with @dang since he not only lives in Rocklin, but deals with this stuff professionally. Sorry to volunteer you Dan but the man wants an s38. :D

all nice @Markos , but most M5's were beaten to dead over the years. Little chance to found a "good" engine.... unless a rebuild of course and $$$$$$

Don,
Not cool.

Man down and we’re kicking him. Yes, bad decisions; but this is not our entertainment.

overall it is a tragedy. no doubt.

I have offered an engine, 5,000.00 worth of free labor and all for nought.

Very frustrating.

I won’t be visiting this thread again.

Yes but @aearch wants a rebuilt s38. Perhaps he can buy this motor and have it rebuilt. Granted, it will cost significantly more than tuning a Link ECU as other have mentioned. No matter if it is rebuild/used, or used plus rebuild. We are talking $15-$20K
