Yes, thank you. It documents that fastener.

The engineers, as well as other manufacturers, used special fasteners on hoods in particular going back at least two decades from the E9. In many cases, those fasteners ( Porsche and perhaps Mercedes) are no longer made or the original suppliers went out of business, and the engineering practice standards changed with different strength markings, sizes, head size.

It's a small item, but something known for those who look for missing details.

On the subject of waved washers- it also details a certain age of engineering thought and application.

you are right, i own a bmw R2 motorrad dated 1934, and it is full of those !

coming to an end ! fortunately !

finally all the hypothesis have been fixed, and all the questions have been solved, so the topic had came to an end

assuming that my torsion bars can be wrong (deformed) the following says that my ideas were ok, and that i could do what i finally did, .....but please if you try to overcome this topic, check if your starting position is the same or not !

today was assembly day, so i had everything prepared, and i started positioning the bar assembly in the car, remember that it was not pre-stressed,

first of all i presented the bar in it´s position carefully with some cloths to avoid damages in the engine area

tools, bolts, and grease were prepared for the assembly, started fixing 4 hexagonal bolts that fix the assembly to the hood support, i was surprised but i had to get rid of the washers, because with them on, the bolts did not fix

then, i started stressing the torsion bars pulling from the front arms (towards the rear of the car), just before the L-brackets were turned away from the arm´s path by undoing the corresponding lower M6 bolts (see pic), but maintaining the top ones

it was difficult to do this by myself without any help (it was late at night so nobody could be reached), but i prepared some plastic straps to avoid undesired movements of the opossite arm

finally i used the special bolts to stop the arms in their position while the hood was firmly secured by a long bar joined to the car underbody

then i put the L-brackets in place and secured them with the M6 bolts:

for the first time since i bought the car there was a safe stop in the hood opening !!! :-D:-D:-D whooooooo !!!

then a lot of detailed adjustment in order to avoid that the arms hit the top of the fenders, so position of the fixed bolt was sightly changed

now it works ok, it helps opening the hood and stops in the apropriate position without hitting the front body member

now someday i will have to touch a little bit the hinges to adjust the hood relative to the engine-opening and that will be all

thanks to all of you for sharing your ideas, and thoughts, it has been essential to expose them to your consideration, for understanding the way it works,

this is a happy end reached with a lot of thinking and a little of doing !
