Well The Vintage for 2017 came and went and it was great to put faces to names/usernames for a good number of you and equally nice to have met you and seen your cars in person. There were so many beautiful E9s this year and certainly the most I have ever seen at once.

Next year I would really like to coordinate more of us together as there were a number of E9s separate from the main group. This year I volunteered to help with the event and next year I would like to propose to Scott (the Festmeister) that I would like to get all the E9 registrations and then coordinate a pre-event staging/convergence for ALL E9 registrants so that we all drive in and form a group together. Let me know your thoughts on this proposal. I know many of you already arrived at once anyway so this would address the other half of the E9s that were not with the bigger group. We may even get our own little piece of the paddock like the E3's and M cars did.

Also, to help with the familiarity and memory of who is who, if you have a pic of your car (from The Vintage or not), please reply to this thread and add your name :) I will start the first reply!

Roland,

Great to meet you and the dozen or so other e9 owners I was privileged to meet at The Vintage. An amazing collection of BMW's, but especially beautiful and well cared for e9's. My compliments to all who brought their cars whether it was dross country primarily by truck (HBChris of CA), driving a pretty good distance east and west and in lot of rain (Stevehose of New Orleans), or by going downhill all the way (N to S - Andrew Wilson). You of course got a 'diagonal route", but still a pretty good distance from IN.

I agree, all the e9's should be together. I've participated in some Porsche events, and we've always separated the cars as they entered the display grounds. Rear engine 911's one area, front engine water cooled in another, rear engine water cooled separate, turbos' to another area etc. Makes viewing those models you are primarily interested in MUCH easier. I 'think' I saw all the e9's there, but because about 5-8 were separated from the main block, I'm not completely sure I got to all of them.

All in all, a good trip, and a great group of owners. So glad to connect names, faces, and Forum names at last.

Gary

That's a great idea Roland even though I wont be shipping my coupe again.

I hung around with Steve A, Wayne K, Chris O, Tom B, Doug D, Doug M and I also saw Don B, George W, Andrew W, Tod B, Mario L and met yourself plus Gary K, Tom S, bimmerboy73, Robert with the Professor and Larry, Amy L, John M, Dave V, BJ Barbieri (new owner) and a bunch of others I am now forgetting (not all had there coupes there though). More pics coming soon.

Was great to see everyone, though I wish I had met and talked to more of the forum members. Tough being the Mayor of Vintageville this year. I am driving Athena next year and will be caravanning with the NoVA E9 guys again.

The ex-Steve Bingham CSi owned by Phil Parkey was to me, the nicest E9 there, it was parked by the M5s and the food trucks. Glad it wasn't parked with the other E9s in the crowded center field. Being alone made it really stand out.

Chris, your 5th pic has not only a very handsome looking car but owner too ;)

Roland, it was nice talking to you.

Here's one of the lineup from another angle. I did not take a single pic at the Vintage (too caught up in seeing other cars and talking Geek).

The 1800TiSa belongs to Lance White in Cincinnati.

Always like seeing my old friend #59, maintained by my friend and legend Jack Deren in Carbondale PA.

Thanks Roland.

I didn't drive my e9 down this year, decided to test the power of my recently acquired e23 745i turbo.
An organized gathering and dedicated e9"paddock" would be great and I would be happy to join in.
Great meeting you and Chris M and his wife, Steve A, Wayne and their cars!

I realize I need better pictures of my car. Here's one from Lime Rock Historics a couple of years ago.

And wow! That Gleason rally CSL looks amazing. Sorry I missed it.

Cheers,
John Margherita

A route decision stop for the final leg along the way down to Asheville. Thinking back I probably should have followed Tom S to be his wing man so he wasn't driving alone on the parkway.

I wonder why my carpets got wet on the way home? This literally drained out for 5 minutes like Austin Powers after a time travel when I took the rocker cover screws off. I am removing all carpet and original tar floor insulation and drying everything out then will rust proof and put new sound deadening on and clean carpets. That rain sucked.

How are the rockers supposed to drain? Obviously I have a blockage.

Hey Roland -- further to your suggestion about getting the group parked together, we need to coordinate with Scott on this and have a segregated parking area set aside for us. I know Macha and the organizers of Legends sort participants by chassis designation; Scott should be able to do it as well.

Our group met up in advance, and traveled nose to tail to the event, only to have the volunteers at the venue direct us to the middle of the field and mix us in with everyone else. Then before we could get our chairs set up the e30 crowd behind us set up a pair of 10x10s right behind our cars. Most of the e9s were scattered hither and yon, making it difficult for us to find one another.
