I'm after the long vinyl top part of the dash in right hand drive, the one that has holes for the vents. Any condition considered.

I also need the aluminium trim pieces which sit underneath the grab rail.

I'm in London / UK.

Thanks,

Damien

a LHD dash pad is the same as RHD I believe but expect to have it re-covered. The "cowl" for the instrument cluster is specific to RHD . The metal trim piece under the wooden grab rail is hard to find but good luck

Hi there , I don’t have any for sale but maybe this might help .
I agree with, “Ausi CSI “ that the dash pad is universal and can be LHD or RHD they are the same. ( at least they are on a 1973 built car ).
Then the aluminium piece looks to me to be like something you could find in an old caravan, it’s just a piece of rubber in an aluminium extrusion ( I am only saying this as a last resort, if you can’t find a bmw part , you may find something similar elsewhere) I have my own one , so no caravans or BMW,s will be harmed ! :)

Excellent, very helpful guys. Wouldn't be the first last resort I've had to revert to. I've got the cowl, so that's ok. I had thought about sourcing something similar for the aluminium strip, so this gives me a bit of confidence to look into it. If I find a suitable source I'll dutifully post details.

Cheers,

Damien

So the wood dash rail uses a different trim piece, I never knew that.
Hi Chris,
I only realized that today also, when i spotted my one didn’t match the one you had for sale recently

Let the school day continue....
Why does my upper dash pad have holes for attaching to the dash cowl that covers the instrument cluster. See the cowl picture below. My upper dash pad is then definitely for LHD.

Hi coupe sport
My e9 is a September 1973 build, which makes it a series 1 car.
She is a RHD car .
The difference between your cowl and mine could be that maybe series 2 cars may all have those extra screws . ( I am assuming yours is a series 2 car , approximately 1974 build date and up )
It could also be to meet the US crash tests ( that is just a guess ! )
Or maybe all LHD dash pads have them.
l did a thread recently called dashboard removal. It has more photos on it , but of course “Murphy’s Law” means that of course the 1 photo I did not take was the one showing the back of the cowl to show you that I have no screws there :)

I recall your thread as I am about to swap out the old and in with my refurbished dash - and thought while reading 'hmm, my cowl has to come out same time as the upper pad, too bad'. The parts I've pictured are quality spares I've gathered and refurbished and so I don't know there origin. I'll soon see what dashpad comes out of my 75 Euro LHD!
Thanks again for your dash removal post.

Thanks again all, and a quick update. I've got the vinyl bit now.

And I've found this, this first thing that came up in a Google search as it turned out...

I'll post again when I try it out.

Yes, hopefully it will do the trick. I've got all the dash parts behind me on a shelf so I'll do a trial fit when it arrives today or tomorrow and let you all know.

Your pictures and measurements were brilliant Barry, great effort there.

As I mentioned, it was literally the first thing that came up when I googled aluminium rubber extrusion in an image search, and even in the correct size.

The length could be problematic if anyone is ordering from outside the UK, it's a little too long for standard delivery services. You could potentially break it into two pieces to get around this. On my car there was a small rubber piping kind of piece covering it at the steering column, but I'm not sure if that was original.

Thanks.

It could also be an option for the sill trim for some maybe?
