Is the aluminum trim on top of the door windows a decoration item or a functional item?
I don't know of any 70s cars having this and given that BMW was cutting corners in many other areas I wonder why they kept that trim...unless it is really a functional piece.
your thoughts...

You mean like the veneer walnut dash & side trim, the leather interior, and the "million-hours-to-assemble" trim package? Yea, those guys in Bavaria were regular cheapskates!

But seriously, what are you referring to?

Its definitely decorative but also has a function.

It dresses up the lip around the window and roof. Left 'naked' or without the trim, the seam between the roof and window is a bit rough and prone to chipping, IMHO.

Of course, doesn't make the coupe go faster, but does 'finish' the edge nicely.

In the age of trimless/chromeless plastic 'uber-cars' (no offense friends), original trim and chrome on a classic cars illustrates craftmanship and detail of a bygone era...

Put it back on if you can...it will look much better: dressed and finished.
Start at one edge, then 'finagle/slap' it on.

Just my two cents and good luck!

It never came off...just wondering if it was functional. I believe that the 70s started to be
difficult for the car industry and they all tightened up their belts a little.
thanks
