Having worked inside the doors on several of my cars, I just today, realized that the black guide rail, mounted on the door window, has its slide not in the centre but towards one of the long sides.
The question is, which way should it be (and does it matter?)?

Should the cut out rail in the "middle" be towards the top of the door/window or vice versa?

One the most recent car I worked on, I changed one of them, as it was damaged. I have several ones in my spares. Not knowing the difference, I now have them mounted differently on each door.

The slight difference in final height of the window, can be altered via the various stops.
But if BMW designed them differenlty, R and L, there was probably a reason behind it....

Any suggestions as to which way they go? Large insert hole towards the rear of the door, but the slit in the upper or lower part of the mounting plate.....?
