Which side do the differential/half shaft bolt curved 2-hole brackets go?

I seems RealOEM has them on the diff side, the manual has them on the half shaft side, do they do below the bolt head or the nut?

I just looked at my E3. The two hole bracket goes under the nut. Won't work under the Allen side.

Thank you.

I can’t believe I am out in the garage under the hoist at 11:45 pm. I will gladly share this photo of my E3 and admit that the Axle boots were just replaced last August. My method of the two holed brackets match’s the drawing but not the photo below supplied by Stevehose where the backing plate of the brakes looks real different of any thing else I have seen. Stevehose lives just a bit north of me, I will invite him down to inspect and drive the car again for him to decide. I don’t mind this, I made other mistakes before. Just ask my spouse.
Thank you

Thanks guys! @Larry Louton I had the same problem as you. I think depending on the kits used to rebuild the half shafts dictate which bracket will fit. I rebuilt mine 13 years ago and had the original ones on the wrong end because they wouldn’t fit otherwise. Then when I swapped diffs I noticed they might be wrong so I bought the newer style (below the original) and they fit under the bolts.

2 distinct shapes for those plates. Later kits use the silver version in Steve’s picture.
Walloth sells early kits that use the black plate. Late new plates are NLA I believe and so we buy used on Lithuanian ebay. Late kits are 1/4 the price of new.

Mine are on the nut side as I have the original larger brackets.

As with many I have had them on/off several times since car purchase in 1990. Its a euro deleivery 2800cs 2205990. I have always put them back on the way I found them. I have no way of knowing if what I bought was original and have never been taken off. I did about 10 years ago replace the boots. Here is pic now

Keep in mind that just a few years later there was no way to install the plates on the wrong side.
Later 1/2 shafts were fastened in with threaded flanges with no need for nuts.

Hello and Thank you for the corrections. I removed all 24 bolts and nuts and two hole plates. I cut out a space for the plate to lay flat.
Repainted plates and reinstalled with torque value. Steve, You may have your post back.

As it was explained brackets must go in the weak metal side to spread the pressure of the bolts…
