Wanted: Reputable Zenith Carburetor Specialist

We are looking for someone reputable and known to the forum with a proven documented track record of rebuilding Zenith 35/40 INAT that would be willing to take ours with all shipping and paperwork taken care of by us both ways.

BCCP in Gramsbergen, The Netherlands knows these carbs as well. I've been on a tour in their shop with the Dutch e9 club a few years ago, and they had 2 sets in refurb process. They are very, very thorough. They can make anything when it comes to carbs, from 1920's Rolls-Royce to the last 1980's Ferrari's.

These Zeniths were also used on Mercedes, so perhaps a local MB club or wider search would turn up names.

As I found out and it was costly, anyone can “rebuild” these as it is just gaskets, float valve, pump and idle mixture jet. Setting the choke on the cam is important too but in my case the primary fuel jet under the stack was too small and BMW didn’t sell individual jets. My guy drilled them out, it takes an expert when they are on the motor to dial them in.

Often the alu sections are distorted, requiring flattening them. I have about 4 pairs, all of them have warped middle sections about where the throttle linkage pokes through it, behind the plastic cap.

I had a terrible time getting mine rebuilt to the point where they could be trusted to work as they should.

My advice is ensure you investigate the credentials of your candidate workshops very thoroughly as above. You want the carbs returned to you thoroughly cleaned out using an ultrasonic cleaner, rebuilt and tested + baselined, so that the car will start up and allow you to fine-tune it without issues. It was surprisingly hard to find a (real) specialist who could do all of this.

The contact Peter in Germany mentioned above will definitely be needed for the parts. You may even need a donor set for some hard-to-find, good used parts also.

I wish you luck - when working as they should they are a wonderful carburettor, however they are complex and you really do need an actual specialist with plenty of experience of them.

I am also looking for help with mine, I attempted, then realized I couldn't do it, then reassembled. Come to think of it now I don't know why I tried haha... if anyone knows someone in the USA that would be appreciated. Thanks
