Hi guys,

While the car is for sale, I am not really trying to sell it to any of you. You are my friends, and you never sell a car to a friend. But since the car is for sale, I figured that it would be in bad taste to not at least mention it here.

Many of you know that last year I started getting some pressure from my wife to move the car along. She's been very gracious about the project. But in full transparency, I am ten years this side of the stage of my life where I deserve to be spending $155k building the ultimate vintage BMW hot rod. I've got two kids getting closer to College, and unless they suddenly become very good at Football or Basketball, I'm facing a huge expense there. I've got a company that I need to invest some money into in order to retain my majority share because of a small internal raise we are doing. And the list goes on.

The point is, I intentionally put my head in the sand on what this car would cost me to build. I didn't predict 24 months and $60k in metal work (which is cheap for the hours spent). I didn't see $4000 in front fenders. And that's all before the Tesla expenses. But it has been an AMAZING ride. I think of it like climbing Mount Everest. People spend years preparing, and incredible expense to do it. All for the journey, and to conquer it. They don't get to sell it at the end and get their money back. I don't expect to get my $155k back (Though many have told me that on BAT I could today- even without it being completed). I've started getting offers yesterday for as much as $95k, then this morning that is starting to go up. So to get the gratification of conquering my Everest as it were, then to get back a good amount of that back- I just can't complain.

I plan to do another one in a few years once my kids get their full rides, I sell my software company, and I am living the way I only pretend to today :) Assuming that the car does sell, I'll try to stick around here. I'll be helping @jefflit complete his Tesla coupe this summer/fall and I'll be start keeping my eyes open for another roller in a few years to ruin with Tesla power.

Thanks guys!

Paul

Super cool car, I've really enjoyed watching this incredible build. Sorry to see it go.

I remember my wife and I stressing about how we were going to pay for college for our two girls. We had a decent amount saved but not nearly enough, we just kind of paid as they progressed through. They both worked and helped pay for rent and food. Our oldest graduated in 2020 from WSU and our youngest is almost finished at UofO. Somehow, we got through it without it effecting what's out in the garage.

Sorry to read that you have to let it go, i was, and am, still fully amazed at what you achieved. You've managed to pull together a bunch of parts and made it more then the sum of the components.

You're not selling a bunch of parts with a statement "ran-when-parked"; your made (and allowed us to peek) a very cool look into the future.

P.s.
You can also move to a country with (almost) free education and keep it...

Nothings "free" in a socialist country my friend......we are right behind you unfortunately with the taxes that are levied on us to pay for everyone else's "free" stuff here. There used to be a big difference, now, not so much.

I think this for sale thread just pivoted. Like the Covid thread did LOL.
No, sorry, didn't mean to high-jack. And it's way more than 50% over there if you own your own business and have employees. My whole family is Dutch and lives there.

Funny thing is I'm not a big fan of electric conversions of cars like a coupe etc. But to be very honest, I think what you did is pretty amazing and pioneering. Who knows, some day we may all need to go that route and everyone will be coming to you for advice. No more software company, Paul's ECOUPES.com.....LOL

The CSE is sold. It's a sad day. I keep telling my Mount Everest story to friends who show up to comfort me. It feels fantastic to have accomplished this, even if I don't get to keep it long-term.

However, the buyer has commissioned me to finish the pretty stuff. So you guys are stuck with me (on my build thread) for a few more months at least while I add AC, battery cooling, paint, upholstery upgrades and such. At least I'll be getting paid for the work going forward, so my wife is suddenly on board with the car!

Thanks again guys for all the kind comments!

You should have a caveat to the sale.....you can visit and take it for a drive a few times a year. That is the deal I made when I bought a Bavaria from the original owner. It was his wife's car and she passed away. Sentimental value to him and I was/am more than happy to oblige.
