RHD CSL at Silverstone Auctions

Thx for the info wage73,

Indeed, a very interesting CSL. Late VIN, one owner from new and in Verona (first registered in April 1973). From one of the last batches of RHD Verona CSLs.

Also, with no reserve - I think some more space in the Garage needs to be prepared.

Cheers
Henric

Nice stable

1973 CSL. OK I know what a 3.0 Si is, but what is the Li.

Nice group.

I will be going to view this car and will be taking photos of it.
i will be taking my mechanic and body worker with me, to give this car the once over.

i will email you some more info on how good the full resto has been, how much it sold for and i have been told this car, looks like it has just come off the bmw production line. showroom condition/mint/flawless etc etc, this could be true or a great sales pitch..

I would like to no who did the full resto on this car, auction staff do not have this info, so they tell me.

Lovely, beautiful, lustworthy, etc. My ONLY petty, small-minded, sniviling complaint is that the Empire got the hanging foglight below the bumper. Everyone should have gotten the Continental foglight built into the chrome next to the license plate.

That should be very interesting especially a RHD, auction should bring big $$$?

Sounds about right for big $$$ too:
“This rare car has recently received the benefit of a total and thorough mechanical and body restoration and re-paint by renowned specialists that has taken several years to complete.” Now that should be more than $100K USD right there.

This link was interesting too>
More info about all the types of E3s built:
Look at some of those dates released> many in 1977 never seen that before.

made some phones calls over the weekend about this CSL for sale next month.....

The car was purchased last year, by a 3rd party.

The car purchased as a restoration project by the new owner and the previous owner had done a lot of welding on the car and bits n bobs.

Car has been in a body shop for the past year, having work done on it and the car has been put back together.

some minor parts are still missing and the car is NOT perfect, showroom condition, mint etc etc.

i was lead to believe this car was MINT etc etc, a open cheque book restoration, no expense spared etc etc.

i will view this car before the auction.

It seems that csls in mint condition rarely change hands and those that do sell themselves and are then owned for a long time. Restoring one is the obvious route but takes up a lot of time even when you just supervise and buy bits!

Sold for £37,000 plus commission which comes to £41,440.

Did anyone actually go and see it in the end? Was it concours and original spec?

i went and saw this CSL, with my bodyworker.

Car looked a million dollars from a distance.

a closer look, we found the following bad points......

nice paint job, hiding filler
both doors did not line up, drivers side door had a bigger gap between the quarter n door shut.
Pass side door did not close, as it shud of.
chrome on the car was blistered.
chrome along the front nose of the car was not inline with the bodywork ie gaps.
same on the quarter panels.
bootlid was not sitting level,
rear bumper was made up from 2nd hand bumpers, not mint.
toolkit not complete
scratch on the drivers side pillar,
CSL looked like it was sitting a bit high, maybe due to lack of use.

Interior,
speakers in both side door panels,
wooden gear knob, looked cheap and worn.
both seats were re-trimmed, genuine part was the middle bit, the padding.
plastic small circle covers for the rear door cards were missing,

i bid to 30k, by phone and then stopped.

Thanks Sandu. Very interesting to hear. So basically it was good, but certainly not mint.

£41k seems like strong money then. I wonder how the condition compares with the 2 CSLs at 4 Star Classics priced at £50k.

i have been told, not had time to go and look, inspect the cars at 4star classics...yet, that the red, white one are both MINT, flawless...so i have been told.

given the choice, ie buying the CSL at auction or from 4star classics, i wud add a few more £ooo and purchased one from 4 star.

Seems like too much of a coincidence for it not to be.

Interesting to see if/when it sells! It has the worthy (?) title of being the most expensive asking price for a RHD city pack CSL I believe unless anyone else can prove otherwise?

£60K City Pack CSL

It has the worthy (?) title of being the most expensive asking price for a RHD city pack CSL I believe unless anyone else can prove otherwise?

Nuttley had this beautiful low mileage (18K from memory) CSL for sale at £60K earlier in the year. Not sure what it sold for but with current rate of price rises it now seems a bargain at asking price !

Indeed, the Nuttley-CSL is a very interesting one-owner-from-new RHD CSL with only 17k miles. Asking price was 60k GBP and latest status was "Deposit taken". Currently in the "Previously sold" section.

Although, a much lower VIN compared to the Silverstone Verona CSL. But, very nice and in untouched condition. It looks like the biggest problem might be the incomplete tool kit.
