We had a chance to take a quick pass through the BMW CCA Foundation collection yesterday. One detail the stood out was the Pepin, Spooner, Izor, Shirk 2800 CS. Beautiful car, and an even more beautiful history and story. But what is the story behind the engine output stated on the plaque? I did not think any average M30 engine approached 292 HP. I'd love to squeeze that out of my engine.

It is a typo more like 192. Only 292 in the car is the cam. That & Yale Rachlin's 2002Tii are the most significant BMW CCA specific cars the Foundation owns.

Unless it was on a dyno the hp is the same 170 DIN that we have in the US 3.0CS. SAE hp back then was measured without ancillary equipment like exhaust manifold and alternators.
