My car has (had 7 years ago) a functional fuel pump. Now disassembling my engine bay for new shock towers, I want to shine and bright all as I pick stuff off the car.

My Pierburg fuel pump looks corroded: it's not too bad, but it simply isn't up to my standard. So I would like to re-zinc it, or replace it.

To re-zinc it I'd have to open up the crimped steel pump house from the aluminium pedestal, seperate the outer housing, get it zinced and crimp it back on.

Now here's my question :
- what happens if you open it up? Does it have a big spring or a 1000 components inside that I never get back in?

Other option is to buy a new one, but Walloth only carries a version that looks post e9 era. It even has a QR code on it. Would be ok only if no other (really no other) option....

OK, gave it a try. I had to sand it to get the rust spots out. Painted 2K clear over it, downside is that now it's iron colored, not yellow CAD / zinc...
Will do fine, but i'm still on the lookout for NOS / look for a donor with correct yellow passivation layer still intact.

I was tempted to tell you to expect Marilyn Monroe popping out from the pump singing "Happy Birthday Mr. Erik" so you would open it...
I recall @deQuincey had sources for NOS (pumps, not Marilyns).
