Does anyone know what the purpose is of the pin protruding from the rim of this harmonic balancer? It is approximately 70 degrees from the OT mark.

Its an indexing pin and was added after so many wrenches went nuts trying to assemble the crank and crank pulley without indexing only to find out that the 8 holes are NOT symmetrically spaced on the crank flange. Early flanges, dampeners and pulleys dont have a pin or an index pin- later ones do.

Thanks for the swift reply. So it is simply a visual marker? I am asking because I am doing an EFI retrofit and need to add 3 Hall sensor protrusions to the rim of the balancer.

Well - what a mess....
I assumed foolishly you were referring to the ninth hole on the dampener.
My apology.
The pin you refer to is a signal to the early diagnostic system for TDC.
