Hi there,
I am a member since 2008 if I know well but I didn't ask, I read this forum when I needed to find the solution. Now I have a problem and I didn't find the answer. If this question was answered already please help to find it.
So my engine got new parts, it is restored and we wanna assembly it. I could purchase all the requested parts except the original oil pump. It works well, clearance ok, but we found small cracks on the triangle part, that holds the sprocket with 3 screws (pic) We don't wanna take the risk to use this part so I need to find the solution: buy a new, or a used one that has this part without cracks, or to buy spare parts somehow, or to install another type that will fit...
Any link, website, contact - or advice - would be helpful.
Thank you in advance!

I preface this by knowing nothing about this part. Can you remove it and have it repaired? In situations like this, I should say in exhaust situations like this, I have brazed a washer of similar material to each opening.

If I don't find other solution, yes, I have to repair it. A good specialist maybe can weld it and cut a new thread on it but somebody has to put it back professionally, because it was tightened by temperature - if I know well. Otherwise it can lose its tightness and the oil pressure can go down to zero... Wouldn't be good :)

Jim Stansfield at Mesa Performance used to rebuild oil pumps and might still have that part available. I bought some parts from him when I had mine rebuilt.

first, i am puzzled with the idea of a forum member from 2008, that searchs for answers or asks for solutions, but does not give anything in exchange
2 posts since 2008, well, you might have had some time to introduce yourself and show your coupe or bavaria, even your cat if you have one
it seems that you are rebuilding an engine so it would be nice to share that science with us, there is always some good in sharing with others
ok, you can do what you want obviously, but it will be nice

what you have there is the early style fixing for the sprocket with three bolts, that was changed in later versions for the central threaded fixing with a selfblocking nut

first, i do not see any problem in installing that one again except the fact of the bolts coming out due to lack of fixing torque, maybe you can use some loctite on the threads or better install studs and then use selfblocking nuts to fix the sprocket to them

second, if it were my car, i do not think there is any problem to remove it and make a new one, of course you will need to use a tight tolerance to install it using heat, a press or both

good luck

Throw it away...

take the front part of the pump off and toss it.
take the front part off a later pump and bolt it up
Make sure you use the matching gears and chains depending on the gear
relieve the shaft hole if it binds.
This just took 10 minutes- super easy

If you do want to use the later smaller gear- prepare to shim to fit and have the right chain.
chains come in 46 and 44 link
thick shims can be found on ebay sometimes.

Sorry, yes, I wasn't active in this forum and you are right, it is not so nice just collecting information and not sharing mine with others. I will complete the missing info on my profile. Thanx for your advices!

Good news:
I found the easiest and fastest (and cheapest) solution to replace my broken "triangle" part in the oil pump. My mechanic to me that he thinks that he found it on WallothNesch. I told him that I started the search on WN of course but no parts for the oil pump for my E9 CS... He found the part under another part number, and it was for 525: part no.: A11411256884, https://www.wallothnesch.com/en/catalogsearch/result/?order=name&dir=asc&q=A11411256884
We gave a try and I ordered a few small parts as a replacement. The result is a success :) It is compatible! Sadly, Wallothnesch said to me that they don't have parts for E9 oil pump but it is not true as we know now...

We started to assemble the engine

but would be good to find a good, simple way to set the timing chain and camshaft in a good position. Any tricks, advice?
Thanx in advance!

A bit late but I have an original BMW E9 oil pump. It was one of the last available to purchase in the USA

If someone will need it I will sell it.

Given that Clard seems to have found a part, you might want to advertise your oil pump in a new thread in the parts for sale section.
