the hood/front end looks like an E9. Saw something on Facebook about being a South African car? Bumper looks different too.

I'm pretty sure it's a 2004. It's a South African model that is based on the Glas 1700 sedan. Glas made a sedan that was very similar in size and look to the BMW 1800 NK sedan. After BMW bought Glas, they sent the tooling for the Glas sedan to South Africa and sold it with a BMW engine as the BMW 1800SA. (South Africa had a domestic content law that required a majority of the car to be built there.) The car was later face-lifted and acquired some E9 and E12 trim.
