Fuel smell in Trunk

Hi Guys,
I have gone through the thread for this item. However, I found there is a small pipe in the inlet of where we fill the fuel (see the picture below) it had a worn pipe and an screw at the end of the pipe. What is it for? What should be at the end of it?

Fuel tank vent. Run a hose from it out the bottom of the trunk, or if your lines to your charcoal tank under the battery are still in tact, you can run this to the small plastic tank tucked up over the passenger rear wheel arch in the trunk, there are then hoses that run up to the engine compartment from there. I would first vent this out the bottom of the trunk first to see if it solves your problem.

The smell in mine was the rubber junction on the filler tube, connecting the inner and outer metal. It looked OK but was not. Replacing it solved the issue.
