This is an interesting relic indeed. I beleive these were from the standard boot mounted tool kit found in BMW covered wagons back in the late 1800s. Back then M stood for Maultier.

Yeah I figured as such. Surprised one of the Porsche guys hasn't picked it up yet. But I still don't recall any of them inquiring about WOOD handled screw drivers. Even Porsche Covered Wagons. The prices of the vintage Porsche tools is insane. Hence:

Yes. The SWB Porsche tools are crazy high right now. I have seen SWB spark plug wrenches sell for $2000 on two different occasions. You used to find complete sets for that much.

Yep, and Wermacht mechanics being the superstitious bunch that they are kept uttering "touch wood" every other sentence so the generals commissioned wood screwdrivers and asked them to shut up.
