Oh,
that seams a expansive order....
I don't saw them under 450 each......

Painfully expensive but I don’t want to look at modern tires for the next 7 years after doing so much work this past year. They were just under $400 each delivered here in USA.

Here is a before and after of the tires from cleaning and application of Tufshine:

The satin finish brings out the subtle details - they ooze uber-period looks and I’m excited to get these on. Meanwhile, the alpinas got a bath and await the paint stripping process that begins tomorrow:

Gosh… they look really nice to me. Obviously I am not close up but pretty nice there.
The rims are somewhat dingy after years of brake dust etc. embedding in them. If I weren't putting tires on them I would not bother repainting but it's easier to do so when tires are off.

Alpinas in the raw - paint all gone and now filling pock marks and dings before priming. I had a shop do the stripping, paint removal diy is a major pita with the weak sauce paint strippers on the market now. I wasted a day and tried 3 different brands on one wheel and got nowhere.

Interestingly, the center area edge where the black paint comes out from the lug area towards the spokes a few mm is cast into the face. Usually you have to make a template and mask this to get the correct look, has anyone seen this? Perhaps it’s an early production thing, although mine date to 4/73 so not super early. Will certainly make it easier to paint the black.

Tomorrow will be prime and silver paint. Then cure for a day then black and satin clear. The rectangular discoloration over the lettering is from tape to protect them from a mild walnut blast final paint removal because even the shops now have shitty chemical strip products.

Mine are from 76 and they also painted like you describe.

After 6 more days working on these, now finished.

1st the ding repair and then 2k primer inside and out:

Then lots of masking etc. Getting paint into the spokes without runs elsewhere is challenging. I used a lazy susan for rotation. Painted the spokes both sides Krylon Dull Aluminum silver (I went with the old school CS Registry newsletter way), then the black inserts starting with getting some paint in the holes before lots of masking and 3 coats of VHT satin epoxy paint:

Several days and many touchups later, it’s off to the tire store tomorrow. Patience is required on this project. 2k satin clear coat and done:
