It helps to align the driveshaft without the deflection of the rubber Guibo… Hal Boyles, makes a part/tool like that for 2002s
Yes, thank you. Just wasn’t sure how critical it was, although driveshaft alignment seems fairly critical. 
Cool tool. I am replacing the transmission and driveshaft this winter and will be contacting @halboyles to get one of these!
Thank you @BarneyT for mentioning us. I created this tool after hearing story after story of failures of the current versions of. the guibo, even OEM versions. This tool ensures that the front half of the drive shaft is correctly aligned with the transmission before bolting everything down, thus saving you many hours and many dollars in replacing the guibo.
