I have been lurking for quite some time and finally present my new project. It is a 1974 CSI, a car that i have followed for a couple of years through 3 owners, each time more added to it, condition deteriorating but the price coming down! It came with a 3-piece rear 'ducktail', full new and uninstalled Group 2 panels (DRM style), Compomotive split rims, plastic windows, 3.5 (early m30) engine and 5 speed. Although RHD, i think it was imported into the UK some 20 years ago, 'Alpina-ised' (i use that term conservatively), attended many trackdays in the 2000's after conversion to 3.5, and has been through Coys twice....and unsold twice.

The car is going off to Surface Processing in a couple of days for dipping. There is quite alot of filler in the bodywork, and whilst generally quite sound in some of the usual rust areas i know there is quite alot that still needs to be remedied.
The car will first and foremost be a race car, albeit road 'legal', my plans are evolving so could end as a historic racer but more likely for club racing here in the UK. The wide arches are unlikely to go on at this stage but i am contemplating a S38B38 conversion. The car is likely to evolve over the years (engine/bodywork) but still up in the air as to where i start.
I have attempted a couple of times to puchase CSL's, but for my use (and 2-3 times the price for a restoration basis car) decided a CSi would be a better base.
I currently have a BMW e30 320i race car which i built almost from a shell and race here in the UK in a production class. Somewhat dated but great fun and learning platform (although i have driven several thousand miles on track (mainly in a highly modified Porsche 968 Club Sport)) i suspect the e9 drive will be exaggerated....more power, more understeer, less grip....and all that weight!
