Does anyone know where I can source the 1972 E9 blue velour fabric? The original suppliers world upholstery and gahh do not carry it anymore. All they carry is leather or vinyl. I need to recover the front seats and need the original fabric if possible. See photos to see the color needed any help you can give me is much appreciated.

Forgive my first statement.....but make sure it is blue and not black. I thought mine was blue till I pulled the back seat and saw the non-sundrenched black! BMW re-released the corduroy a few years back and it was reasonable too. Perhaps there is no more, but call. WRT the surround, I used mohair which looks like velour but much more durable.

It’s a bummer that there are no velour seat kits. That equates to a huge jump in labor.

Was talking to @rschick about the must have “tuck”. It seems prevalent on velour rear buckets, but a bit muted on the front seat backs. Is that correct?

The “tuck” on the leather front seat is way too pronounced. It should not have a solid sewn line completely across the seat back pleats. Instead, each pleat should have its own horizontally “mini tuck”. The same applies to the seating surface of the seat. Just me.

Does anyone know if this 1972 fabric was the same used in the earliest ('72 / '73) E12s?

Chris Kohler has some beautiful blue corduroy on the seats of his E28M5. He is totally anal about his cars and I would think it appropriate. Contact him on this forum and double check with him

The dealer was cheaper per sq meter and there was no shipping charge so why push overseas stuff that is probably gotten from BMW anyway?

I tried for years to get the corduroy from BMW through the dealer. Multiple dealers. Order was always cancelled, citing it couldn’t be imported to the US for various reasons. Fortunately I had a friend in Germany that ordered from the dealer and shipped to me. Most recently I got the last remaining from BMW (in 2015) through a friend in Holland.

I’m lucky to have a parts guy that is willing to put in the effort to get “non-US” (despite being used on US cars) parts for me but the PITA BMW NA has made it has had me buying from overseas much more than previously.

I had bought herringbone for the seats and the day I was taking everything to the upholsterer, got a text message from Luis A that BMW was remaking the corduroy. I just went to the dealer and ordered it here in Ma. Was 85 bucks for a sq. meter. That was 3 years ago however. Also will restate that my carpet and seats looked blue till I pulled the rear seats. I was quite surprised.

This is the fabric on my '73 520i. Does it look the same as the Nylonflock cord material currently available from BMW?
