I know very little about this, and very little in general about anything too, but,

I think it is not the speakers what gives you the power, but the amplifier, right ?
i mean you need a 500w output to feed these so they blow 500w
please do tell

Hello, I think you are right but with that kind of amp 500w output you need a speaker to handle it

Of course, I understand the speakers are rated to handle up to 500w
so if you have the amplifier yo need the speakers
i wonder if you have, say a 20w amp if the 500w would mean a drawback, I have no idea

500 watts tells you how much CLEAN power they can handle. And the power is a function of the amp. Speaker efficiency (often referred to as sensitivity) is specified as decibels (dB’s) at 1 meter per 1 watt of power input. My Klipsch Forte home speakers are very efficient at 99dB, and thus require little power. My previous speakers, Infinity RSIII had an efficiency of 89 dB so required goobs more power to play at the same loudness level.

Don’t choose a speaker based on how much power it will handle. Choose a speaker that sounds good and is matched to the signal source and amplification.

BTW I’ve got an ADS 100w amp and ADS 300i plate speakers in my e9. Sounds fantastic when I’m parked, but the wind and engine noise dominate when I’m driving, and I’d rather listen to that anyway.
