shifter console transformation from auto to manual, is doable

a friend from this forum asked me about his original automatic console that was transformed into manual some time ago. the piece was doing a correct function but aestetically he was not pleased

i said yes in principle, but when i got it in my hands uncovered,...



the opening was very, very big



it was clear that before doing anything i had to completely fill the hole again

This is an old thread but I would think that if anyone would embark on the same process, it might be easier to cut the hole in the center wood piece before gluing it in place. The reason is if you do i that way, you can use a router to carve the channel for the leather holding aluminium ring insert.

It would probably make it easier and more precise than using a Dremel. (At least I think that is what Jesus is using...)
