replacement engine

Car is currently still a shell. Have been talking engine options and I'm being advised the most sensible option would be to use an 80s 3.5 M30 engine from an E28. Goes in on the original mounts, and is very easy to pull 240 bhp + out for very little money.

Thoughts?

That's what I have in my Bav. Works great.

The E28 motor is fine, but if you are going to go through all that, I'd get a M30B35. Better head, better compression, top-mount oil filter. As I recall (researched engine swap issues about 10 years ago at this point) the one concern was the motor mount bolts not all lining up on one side. I think 3 of 4 fit without problems.
