M49 vs M88/1 Exhaust Headers

Quick question to all savvy E9ers. Are the Group 5 CSL upright mounted M49 3.5 headers same as the M88/1? Did BMW use the same exhaust headers for their mid engine M1?

I have seen many photos of both engines but non showing full headers for visual comparison let alone affirmation.

No they are not the same . not even close.

Ill try and post a picture of my M88 headers this evening

I would be surprised if you could source a set from an m49 . while the m88s are difficult / expensive , you can still get them

Original M49 (copies) are available in the uk as it happens. But you need an M49.....
And no the bundle of snakes m88 are nothing like them...

Those are the coolest headers of all time... especially when they glow bright orange and pulse with each throttle blip.

I'm comparing M88/1 headers found in M1 cars (not the M88/3) with the late M49 upright mount engine headers and not the earlier slight slanted M49. I have located a set for the M88/1 in Germany and the seller is claiming they are the same as the late M49 headers.

Anyone??

No, they are not the same. The M49 headers go down lower to clear the floor.
