Alpinas in the raw - paint all gone and now filling pock marks and dings before priming. I had a shop do the stripping, paint removal diy is a major pita with the weak sauce paint strippers on the market now. I wasted a day and tried 3 different brands on one wheel and got nowhere.
Interestingly, the center area edge where the black paint comes out from the lug area towards the spokes a few mm is cast into the face. Usually you have to make a template and mask this to get the correct look, has anyone seen this? Perhaps it’s an early production thing, although mine date to 4/73 so not super early. Will certainly make it easier to paint the black.
Tomorrow will be prime and silver paint. Then cure for a day then black and satin clear. The rectangular discoloration over the lettering is from tape to protect them from a mild walnut blast final paint removal because even the shops now have shitty chemical strip products.
