Hello all,
Came across this on the German E9 forum and thought all carb car owners should be aware of this members carb resto abilities......

“These are first series carbs for 2800CS Coupe and E3’s from 1968 - 1972.
Upon order I can be provide carbs for both manual and automatic cars.
The early E9 3,0CS, 1971 till end of 1972 Ende had very similar carbs too. After which details were changed, like mixture etc”. (My translation). As I understand, he can rebuild other model carbs too.

Upon interest I can ask Peter to maybe become a member and communicate directly if interested. No prices were mentioned.

I'm about to start a nut and bolt on the next to last Carb CSL produced/sold.

Ive just sent Peter an email expressing our wish for him to join the forum (sent link) and share his carb magic with us.
Hopefully he will.
An eye catcher, even for us FI guys!

Very nice. Both the silver and the gold finish look like paint to me. Can someone elucidate?

The aluminum looks vapor blasted to me. I’m not sure however because the steel linkage rod looks like the exact same finish.

The carb lever has an unfinished steel ball but the back side of the ball is gold. I’m not sure how you could achieve that effect with plating.

That "gold" effect might be also particular yellow zinc plating.
Colour of zinc plating depend much on who is making it & of couple mechanical things: type of steel, surface finish , bath chemical prepare & later process course (time, voltage etc.).
Sometimes, when i receive my parts from zinc plating - i have three or even four different colours even for same parts, because they don't make them all at one time & sometimes different people are making the job. Mainly it's: 1. light satin yellow - for blasted parts, 2. gloss yellow - for brushed or polished, 3. gloss yellow/with slight red - for brushed or polished; sometimes colors are darker, sometimes lighter.

Here is a bunch of plating I did myself yesterday with a Caswell products. I glass bead the stuff firts, then run it through a vibrator with crushed walnut shells. This gives the stuff a nicer polished look that , in the end, produces a nicer finish. These are parts for an Alt, starter, frt suspension, P/S brackets ( for an up date to a 87 535 pump ) and other bits that I had blasted. This is all bright zinc plated with either a yellow chromate or a clear /blue chromate.

I am about to pull the carbs off a 70 2800CS and will plate all the bits for that. Will post pictures later of that done. Contemplating to get the carbs vapour blasted or use my old pounded out glass bead that I keep for doing carbs ( it is much softer on the metal )

Thanks, Rick

Hello all,
I finally heard back from Hans-Peter, the carb specialist. I was almost afraid he wouldn’t join our illustrious group :)

He should be registered by tomorrow under @hanspeterneuner. He let me know that he will share his work with us soon but that his speciality is primarily Euro Model carbs.
I’m sure he will be a great asset to our group and surely many of us will profit from his abilities.

Cheers
Keshav
