Take a look at my weekend project of retracting the rear bumper by about 2-3 inches.

I depressurized each bumper shock, removed the bumper space filler, inserted body buttons into the bumper space holes, trimmed down the sides and re-installed.

My goal was to try this and see if this would be a viable modification and still be able to fully return it back to the original position if ever needed.

Based on my before and after results my bumper will not going back to the original position. Now moving on to try the front bumper next!

hi, how did you trim the black rubber sides. cut and paste?

w. chen

Yes it was basically a cut and paste.

I cut one rib off each end and used the next two ribs to cement bond it under each end. I then use Permatex black silicone adhesive to fill in the transition.

It went from originally having 16 ribs to now with only ten exposed.

Super cool, please show the front when you are done. I think most would prefer the chrome, but this looks like a massive improvement for very little money. I probably sunk about 1200.00 into converting to the old style (pre '73) chromies and I think that was cheap!
