1970 2800cs valve cover

The valve cover of my 1970 2800cs has previously been partially painted black. What was the original factory finish of the valve covers? Were they chrome? Dale.

Mine is a 'polished' Aluminum. Not sure if original, but came that way and I like it. Alpina painted theirs black in 1970.

Standard covers (no ALPINAs etc) were typically passivated aluminum, not specifically polished but it was common for many to make then nicer.
