Hi Roger,

Sorry I never got back to you. I'm going to hang onto the one from my parts car. The one in my project car is a bit beat up but solid. See what you find here. You can have my extra one for free.

How does it come off?

Pull on it, twist it, swear a bit, pull more, swear more, add in some twisting, more pulling, extend your swearing vocabulary a bit, pull hard.

If you can get hold of a square grip handle it will help from twisting the lever to the left when you pull. Many people like them better although not period correct for our cars.

unless you have a supreme desire to stay completely original, you can buy the newer style from bmw for the coupe, bavaria + 2002 ... it was the one created in '76 for the last few batches of the 2002. its a molded grip that fits the hand better. its only about 5 bucks or so. you can even buy a new button.

Hi Roger,

Well it looks like one of mine is cracked. It's not as bad as yours but still cracked nonetheless. This was the 'good' one also. Incidentally the orange deadblow and the yellow wedge is how I removed it. The pointy end of the wedge actually put little marks in the end handle, so I reversed it. No lubricant required. Anyway, PM me your address if you want me to send it your way.

Is it me or do these grips look slightly different? The left is a '73 3.0CSI and the right is a '71 2800CS.

Given that these are NLA, I think I might send my other grip to my 3D modeler, along with another small important part. It should only take him about an hour so the development costs should be low. The part uses little material so the printing costs should also be low.

Here is a bicycle grip with significantly more material than the E9 brake grip for $15. I would need to tack on around $5 to recover the development cost over time.

I believe these were on 2002's as well (the style you are looking for). I think they fit the same, I could be wrong but that opens a lot more doors. Bavaria and Coupe grips swap no problem.
