1/ brakes
Overhaul all four calipers
Reface, skim and clean friction materials
Overhaul twin brake servos
Overhaul cylinders
Replace corroded brake pipes
I would allow around 10-12 hours work
With parts costing £300- £800. This depends on whether or not servos need
Total refurb which costs £500 per pair.

2/lights
Near side lighting circuit faulty (tracing a damaged loom wire or plug)
Light relays and 1x switch also faulty
3-4 hours
Parts £150

3/wipers
Replace seized wiper mechanism and motor
Possible wiper relay fault
Labour 2-3 hours
Parts £200-£300

4/welding
Just for an MOT you should be able to get away with the front sills/jacking points
Going into the lower section of floors.
Labour 25-30 hours
Parts £50-£100

5/front suspension
The front springs have snapped which means the legs need to be removed
and then refitted. I would hope you could get away with just new springs
3-4 hours
Parts £200

6/exhaust
This just needs remounting on some secure fixings
1-2 hours
Parts £40

7/horn
Replace horn and horn contacts
2 hours
Parts £60

8/service/running
I would combine a service with sorting the running issues simply because
Items like fuel and filters will need to be replaced to continue diagnoses.
We are fairly confident that the non start is an electrical issue affecting the
fuelling.
This really could be anything so you would want to budget a £400-£500
Minimum to cover some the more common offenders.

The list of MOT faults is as follows

Near side lights inoperative (dips, mains, sides and indicators)
Braking system inop (calipers seized, pipes corroded, servos leaking)
Horn inop
Windows inop
Wipers inop
Near side front inner sill holed
Off side front inner sill holed
Rear silencer has no mounts
Front panel corroded
Rear valance corroded
Near side front spring snapped
Off side front tyre rubbing
Fog lamps inop
Brake lights inop
Rear bumper insecure
Bulk head holed
Inner wings corroded
Boot lid needs mounting correctly

These are the items listed concentrating on an MOT report
not covering every aspect of the car

oops, a bit qick to press 'return' !!

so, car is now at munich legends in sussex after having been in storage for 5 years, I asked them to do a pre mot for me to see what it needs to get running and have got the above, seems like a bit of work to get the old girl up and out !

Couple of questions:

- anyone know who could rebuild the brake calipers here in uk ?
- I have just reppleaced the spring ad shocks on my e28, does anyone know if the old one will fit on an e9 as a teporary repair ?

all said and done not that bad considering its been sitting around for 5 years ?

having seen The Don's good work I thought I would update on my position.

Got the car on a low loader from Munich Legends back home, where it sat for a month or two while I contemplated what to do.

Have now decided to just get it on the road for now and have had classic heros rebuild the calipers (they did a good job by the way) My local garage is puting the calipers back on the car together with goodridge line and new pipes all round.

I have 2 front lowering speings from jaymic and hopefully the it can go for an mot to work out what basic repairs are need to catch the last of the uk sun.

I will try and get some pictures up soon.

Readie, the pics look good but as you point out it is what is lurking under the skin that is the issue.

Still as a csl, you will need to find the money to get it back to its former glory as it will be your retirement pension.

Food is overrated and who needs new clothes anyhow? :p

the project

well, i am pleased to say that i have now managed to get an mot on my new little project.

the work carried out to get it on the road, going from front to back:
- front bumper removed
- 4 new headlights
- new windscreen wiper motor
- full service
- new fuel pump
- 2 front springs replaced
- brake calipers rebuilt all round, with new pads
- stainless brake lines
- new copper brake pipes all round
- temporary e3 steering wheel
- boot catch fabricated
- rear bumper removed
- 'mini' number plate light fitted

not really lots of parts but loads of hours so quite a big bill !

intend to take a couple of pictures shotly and put them up.

project

hi Paul, if you look at my other post 'as it presently is' you will see some pictures there.

It was at munich legends for over 5 years as the previous owner and they had a dispute, which I had to resolve in order to take control of the car.

It now has an MOT and the intention is that after next summer I will put it into a specialist bodyshop for a stripdown acid dip and repaint, probably like you at spl
