Restored by Mint Classics. Munich based company who have some incredible cars. All absolutely top condition (and prices). Plenty BMWs and a bunch of Csl’s too.
They currently have 2 4355xxx Csl’s being restored.
Check them out on Instagram. Mint Classics.

In looking at the engine compartment photos, a question: Did/do the CSL's not have the tar paper insulation on the inner fender tops? Or was that omitted on this car during the restoration? I plan on omitting mine on my regular old CS, not to mimic a CSL but just because I prefer the clean appearance.

Stephen, that was well noticed..... Csl’s didn’t use the tar pads from all the pics I have. It’s almost impossible to find an unrestored Csl but I have pics from a few late BATs without the tar pads too. The pics of the carb cars are without the pads too. The green one is mine. I never cared for the tar pads, they were water traps in the old days of daily use.

Sorry, had to clean the drool off my keyboard after looking at the pics of your car. :) I agree about the water retention probability with the pads.

agree about the water retention probability with the pads

And the same applied to the floor board tar pads. These cars were/ are prone to water leaks and upon removing the tar pads, you could see the ill effects. The water/ moisture trapped underneath wasn’t detectable until too late. Although a good sound and heat deadening idea, in reality it was a flop (my opinion only) as in helping the cars to rust way faster. I’ll go so far as to say that without the floor tar pads, many more cars would still have the original sheet metal.

chiedo scusa e dico la mia
il maestro KESHAV sarà d'accordo con me!
su questa bellissima csL ci sono particolari non corretti
-griglie cofano e griglie parafanghi(credo vadano chrome)
-strumenti supplementari cruscotto(????),alpina aveva una sua piastra
e spesso si sacrificava la musica in auto(meglio sound 6 cilindri 3000rpm)
-volante(????)tappo alpina-no bmw
-pomello cambio(???) brand alpina -no bmw
-adesivi cofano motore(posizionati con fantasia)
-cerchi(meglio su quella auto alpina magnesio 3 pz)

I apologize and I say mine
the KESHAV teacher will agree with me!
on this beautiful csL there are incorrect details
- hood grilles and fenders grids (I think they go chrome)
- additional instrument panel (????), alpine had its own plate
and often music was sacrificed in cars (better sound 6 cylinders 3000rpm)
-volante (????) alpine cap-no bmw
-power exchange (???) brand alpine -no bmw
- engine hood stickers (positioned with imagination)
-cars (better on that mountain car magnesium 3 pcs)

Hi Gianni,
Hope all is well. I would like to elaborate and share some of my conclusions which should hopefully shed light on your well noticed differences. So, although this Csl has Alpina parts and Alpina invoices to prove so......
Here we differentiate between those cars (extremely few) that went unfinished from the BMW factory directly to Alpina who completed the car as a B2/S with all their goodies as opposed to a lightweight carb Csl (or even any other E9 models) that an owner took to Alpina to get modified. In the second case the owner went thru the ‘wish’ list and bought what he liked, not necessarily everything on the list. With documents to prove what was added/ changed etc.
Most carb Csl’s had black hood and vent grills, radio, Momo steering wheel with Bmw horn button, Bmw shift knob, Alpina 7x14 rims, so whilst getting the upgrades, depending on the wish list, the basic Bmw parts remained unchanged like in this case. That the decals are misplaced after the restoration, as HB Chris also mentioned is unfortunate considering what the car and its price represent.
As always, Im only sharing what I’ve gathered and subject to refinement!
What might be misleading is that it says Alpina but not B2/S. It surely has Alpina parts installed by Alpina with dated invoices to back it up but the fine differences you’ve mentioned are to be found on a true factory Alpina B2S (like the Yannick Csl)
