I am helping a friend with his 1970 2800 CS (hold back your comments Don) and I laid the trunk carpet from my 74 3.0 into the 1970 2800 and it was too small meaning there was about 1 1/2 inches of elephant skin showing on both sides near the wheel wells and really all the way around. When I brought the carpet home and put it in my 74 it fit perfectly. The elephant skin-covered wood pieces (original) on the 1970 fit perfect so I'm wondering if there were changes in the wheel well dimensions over the years?? For some reason I thought the shells were identical over the years-

Enlightenment most welcome!

I'm just guessing here but the '74 cars have side 'sills' in their trunks. I have no idea what they are for (storage??) but I've only seen them on '74 e9s.

bumper bracing

the frame structure in the rear of the 74 was beefed up substantially to accommodate the stronger (and hideous) rear bumper.

Hmm, had no idea about these differences in the dimensions.
Let's see some measurements with good reference points from you out there just to clarify the difference.
