Hi Guys
I know this has nothing to do with E9’s
But I am looking for some advice or help .
I have a triumph stag which was converted to have a rover 3.5 SD1 V8 under the bonnet.
The engine has recently developed a crankshaft pulley/ damper wobble.
The usual parts people don’t seem to stock this part anymore .
The damper has a metal core then rubber then a metal outer . This is to remove vibration, I believe.
So I am wondering if anyone knows if a solid damper can be made up or something , or does someone happen to have a good second hand part available for sale ?
Any advice would be great thanks.

I have a short video clip of it , but I think videos can’t be added here.

I don't have the part you need and can only suggest possible alternatives.

I have a Rover P6 engine in my MGB...

I can't get a good picture of the damper but it would probably be the same as an SD1.

I also have the 1962 Buick version of this engine "in inventory" awaiting a suitable project for its use...

I think this may also be the same as the SD!.

Lastly, the Range Rover used this motor in the 3.5 liter form until 1998 and until 2004 in larger displacements. These would be the easiest to find and hopefully the damper from one would work.

Hi Dick
Thanks for the info.
Your installation is seriously nice !!
I love the way you have routed the carburettor air intake through the original heater intake on the bulkhead, to keep a supply of cold air to the engine .
What carburettor are you using ?
My car looks nice from 20feet away , but it could do with improving when you are closer to it.
Mine has twin SU’s they are very high on the engine and are very close to hitting the bonnet.
I often thought about upgrading to a single carb.
Mind you I don’t intend doing anything to her until my E9 is eventually finished :)

Your Stag is beautiful! And such a great picture.

My P6 also came with 2 SUs. It ran quite fine with them. I would have kept that set up if it fit under the hood. I wanted the finished car to look stock and a big scoop on the hood wouldn't do.

The current intake is a stock aluminum one from a 215 Buick from 62 or 63. Aftermarket 4 barrel intakes are also available. The carb is an Edelbrock 1404 500 CFM.

Hi Dick
Thanks for the compliment.
The engine in your video is super clean . I wish mine looked as good as that .
I bought the stag in about 2011 and have done a lot of work on it to improve it , but I never took the engine out.
Some day I would like to get the time to pull out the engine and do a refresh/ rebuild on her and do a proper job of cleaning up the engine bay .
I need / want to keep her going in the meantime as I still have an awful lot left to do on my e9. And I don’t have enough space in my garage to work on 2 cars at the same time.
I’ll get there someday though.

In the US, looking in Hemmings Motor News, which can be found on the internet I think. I don't know for sure as I
get a hard copy each month, there are 1-2 people who can rebuild these However I think the shipping costs might be a deal breaker for you

Hi Bert
I have found a few places in the states alright as you mentioned and I have found one in New Zealand .
But so far I have found nothing in Ireland or the uk or Europe.
I did fill out an online contact form for the rover SD1 Forum in the UK just so I could ask them for some advice , but so far they have not replied.
Thanks again Anyway :)

Hi guys
I got a chance to do some work on my Stag today.
We normally attend a classic car tour / run with her in May and the pulley wobble was playing on my mind.
So I took the pulley off of the engine today. It was dangerously wobbling
Anyway I have bought another pulley as a replacement. ( it hasn’t arrived yet )
I don’t know why but my one seems to have been modified by a previous owner.
The groove to take the key on the crankshaft seems to have been modified
Or else the cast iron has worn away .
Although that seems unusual to me.
I don’t know how the timing was set as the pulley had about 10 or 15 degrees of play on the key way.
The pulley on the purple background has the correct key way and as you can see the key way on my own pulley looks very different .
