oil chain help

my dad just called from houston and said he couldn't find a 'master link' in the old oil pump chain to remove and replace with a new chain (and sprocket). any pointers? i don't have my blue books anymore, but is there any online references for this procedure?

no link in either original chain. Lower gear has 3 short bolts or a hex nut- sprocket gets pulled or cut and chiseled. Boil the the new sprocket in oil and use the old sprocket to drift on.

If you replace the crank sprocket you should cook the the new one in a pan of oil so it goes on easier. Use the old one to drive on the new one and make very sure it is all the way on and lind up with the oil pump gear.
