For Sale: 1974 3.0 CS Coupe

E9 Forum thread with description and pictures of work performed.

I purchased this coupe in 2014. Shortly thereafter I enlisted forum member Sven Larsen to help with an extensive engine, suspension and driveline rebuild and upgrade. The old 3.0 carbureted engine was exchanged for a 3.5 fuel injected custom built engine with MegaSquirt 3. Paul Burke custom cam and custom pistons. The goal was to upgrade but keep the car looking as stock as possible.

Color: Granatrot
Mileage: 126,000 – 4,500 on new engine.

The new engine is amazing! She’s fast, pulls really hard in every gear with a beautiful and aggressive exhaust note.

Below is a list of the work completed over the past 4 years and while she’s certainly not a perfect 100 point car I feel she one of the best maintained driest and fastest coupes out there.

Car will be available for purchase through BaT auction site in coming weeks.

Rust:
The car is as close to rust free as I think you can get these days without a ground up rotisserie and while I don’t want to say 100% it’s close. I believe it spent its life in California, and Arizona before moving to Seattle.

Body/Exterior:
An almost rust free extremely dry body
Coupe King bumper conversion
Coupe King Replica Alpina staggered rims
Painted engine bay (while engine was out).

Engine Rebuilt By Motor Sport Seattle

M30b34 block & b35 head. Block bored to 1st oversize.
Custom Paul Burke 10:1 pistons, N21 Paul Burke cam, valve regrind, new valve guides, crank grind, all new bearings. Complete rebuild.
3.0 CSi Intake parts and oil pan clear coated with high temp coating
Modified intake manifold stubs to fit larger head intake ports.
Modern injectors cleaned and tested (hose adaptors from La Jolla)
All new fuel hoses
K&N Air filter currently on car

Electronics:
Megasquirt 3 full featured ECU MS3 board with sequential fuel injection
Custom wiring harness in engine bay for EFI
New battery
New in-tank fuel pump
Megasquirt box located in glove box

Drive Line:
5 Speed Gertrag (w/OD)
Replaced rear seal
M-type guibo installed
Replaced rear wheel bearings
Installed rebuilt LSD
Installed reinforcing plate kit from Coupe King
Lengthened/rebuilt/rebalanced propeller shaft
Disassemble/cleaned/re-greased both rear axles. Replaced all boots.

Suspension:
Carl Nelson springs (on car when purchased)
Bilstein shocks (on car when purchased)
Installed upsized sway bars (28mm front & 22 mm rear) and bushings.
Replaced center steering linkage and both tie rod ends.
Replaced front rubber compliance bushings.
Replaced control arms.
All suspension metal parts powder coated (front engine frame, rear frame and arms, wish bone links, and other miscellaneous brackets)
Replaced both rear suspension bushings and bushings in rear trailing arms.

Buyers: Unbelievable deal, grab it now before the seller pulls it and reprices it.

Thanks for all of the positive feedback guys, much appreciated. I'm going to be adding additional pictures to the flicker album shortly.
This forum and its members have been such an amazing and valuable resource over the years of ownership that I wanted to post here first for a few days before running it on BAT to give any members first opportunity. I'll post on BAT early next week to give it a little more exposure.
If it doesn't sell it will be moving to UT with me and honestly after driving her again in Seattle last week that won't be a disappointment.

You might compare BAT prices in August vs. other months. I talked to a repeat seller who said there are fewer bidders in certain months when people are on vacation, competing live auctions, etc. I do not know if this is true or complete BS, but throwing out there in case more knowledgeable folks might shoot it down or confirm. Stunningly well done car.

I agree. There has to be some science to it. Prices are all over the map. I am sure BAT has stats on what days of the week and what months do better than others. They just won’t tell us. I think the number of RNMs is a pretty good indicator. American cars overall don’t do well on BAT, Alfas are kind of average, Porsches do very well and BMWs are pretty good. I would try to sell while you are still in Seattle—a bigger pool of buyers who can come see the car in person.

Wow, super nice is right. I'll bet that motor is great.

Agree on waiting until September for a successful BaT unveiling.

And you might want to sell your extra set of Recaros separately.

We can have a mock BaT auction here!

Here are the example comments:

1. Anecdotal story about how I first saw one of these cars in college

2. Rust. Probably everywhere we can’t see.

3. Not stock, therefore ruined. Seller should make a concession to allow buyer to return car to less desireable but original form.

4. Anecdotal story about not pulling the trigger on one of these 10 years ago

5. VIN and paperwork detectives sense a discrepancy with the mileage on your service records. The whole car is suspect

6. Glowing praises. Wish I had $100K

7. False expert providing false advice based on incorrect assumptions and information. Will apologize later, but not before locking their comments for all time.

8. Rust

Did I miss anything?

Awesome list!

9. The first bid will be $1972.00 or whatever year the car is.

10. If it's a '73 there will be three separate comments about how the front bumper overriders are on upside down.

This car is as CLEAN as they come...

Spent all it's life in Millbrae, California until I bought it in 2009. Spent a year in Las Vegas (not Arizona) and then went up to Seattle.

This is the car I drove from Vegas to Seattle in one day...

Best driving trip I ever went on...

I took it back and forth on Hwy 97 from Las Vegas to Reno a couple of times as well.

GLWS...

I have photos from before if anyone is interested....
