What was original, flat, semi-gloss or gloss? From what remains, I see Taiga on top of primer, no type of clear coat.

Same as exterior I believe. That is why Polaris always looks gold in the bay.
I just touched up my engine bay when the engine was out with a single stage paint. Wouldn't a two stage base coat /clear coat in the engine bay be too glossy if you are looking for originality?
With a two stage paint, the base coat will be very flat, the clear gives it the gloss. A single stage paint is glossy unless you specified a matte finish.
