ECS Tuning

ouch! what a sad story. appreciate you alerting us Chris. I get a lot of email offers from ECS, and have ordered from Pelican as well, but really, really prefer to avoid order mixups and poor service. A "heads up" for sure. Mike

Eek! Have ordered from Turner in the past and more recently ECS. This type of story leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Sounds typical of any buyout.

When IBM bought out FileNet (SoCal soft ware company), it was the beginning of the end. Out of ~1500 employees, maybe 20 still survive. Most were canned.

It's the American way. I sure hope T-mobile doesn't get approved to buy Sprint. We need MORE competition; not less.

*sigh*

hopefully getbmwparts is left alone. their prices routinely beat ecs tuning all the time. i guess i will retarget the few parts that i was going to buy from ECS and get them elsewhere.

Wow! I actually have had terrible encounters with ECS as well where I publicly bashed them on Instagram which gained a lot of traction on my page, they are terrible and this post assures me that my order wasn’t just a hiccup but a diseased company

Yeah ECS took my money for a few small parts, stung me $80 for postage.
3 months later get an email sayin they were still on back order.
Took another 2 months of hassling to get a refund.
Ordered same parts from another supplier, arrived in Australia within 10 days.

Says is all really.

Odd that Turner starts free shipping at $99 while ECS starts free shipping at $49. And ECS won't ship until all parts are available for a given order. If 1 gets delayed, they won't break up your shipment, unless you pay shipping on portions that don't exceed $49. I had to do this to get them to release parts. When the two shipments came, it seemed pretty obvious the hold-up part was BMW OEM and drop-shipped from supplier. Seemed goofy and almost designed to alienate customers. CS guy was super nice, but he couldn't deviate from the script much and seemed to be pretty stressed. I went from being annoyed to trying to assure him it was all great, he was a great American, and I was super happy to pay shipping on whatever he wanted me to. Hell, I would have paid for his lunch if he asked.

It also seems odd to be such penny pinchers while (I assume) funding Turner racing, which has to cost millions.

While it is painful and sad to see a successful business in Turner start a decline... how would they have sold/merged with a company and not understood, via a contract, what would happen with the direction of the company. If it was truly about customers and the employees, wouldn't they have stayed as a standalone company. The sale likely made Turner ownership a bundle of money, while the employees lost out. That story plays out regularly.

I tend to agree. That example is rather simple however. It doesn’t account for a dominant player squeezing the competition. I don’t know why Turner sold but if ECS was constantly under cutting them and everyone else, what other company would Turner sell to if future profitability seemed unlikely?

Very true... I've also read numerous negative reviews of ECS. Disappointing to see them pick up both Pelican and Turner.

I had a poor experience with ECS years ago, maybe its the NY instinct, but I stayed away thereafter. I had noticed similarities in ECS and Turner websites so now I know why.

WRT Turner, they are local and I have gone to weekend tech talks. They were awesome, insightful and helped me identify problems with my e24. In fact my plate surround is a gift to them and from them " This car tuned by Turner Motorsports". I wanted to thank that side of the business publicly. BTW I have no vested interest in any of these places.

Yeah, so I am thinking that this consolidation of parts retailers is a bad omen for us car nuts, particularly when you take into account the migration of parts suppliers to China (and the associated reduction in parts quality).

Or said another way, the incentives for hoarding are going up.

Hmmm. I've ordered a bit of this-n-that from ecs over the years, when their price was right, and no problems to report. Maybe no more... Perhaps others will pop up.

(edit) FCP has been good to me and have become my go-to for almost all my orders, not that I buy a lot.

Really though, who is the demon here? Ask yourself, is it Will Turner, who enabled this tale of woe by selling his operation for his own profit, or the guys who bought it? Are we mostly capitalists here, who would do much the same, or "democratic socialists" whose numbers seem to be on the rise? In the end, it's a done deal. It is what it is. There are other places to take your and my orders.

Does anyone know who owns FCP Euro? I have used them for 10 years now and have been great. Even bought some e9 parts from them recently. I hope they don’t get taken over.
