I picked up this set today. I assume they are very early wheels since they do not have the extra holes. Also, I had never seen ALPINA wheels with a BMW logo on them. No RONAL markings in the back, just a few numbers and one that may indicate the built date, 12/73 !! Am I correct?
Would it be ok to run 205/70/14s ?
Thanks,

Hi Merdad,
Infact, those are the last of the 3 series of 7x14” Csl rims. If all 4 rims have the same date of 12/3 then you have an added jackpot to the fact in finding these very desired rims. The first 2 series didn’t have the BMW logo, just Alpina and a parts#.
Pm me if you want a long sermon on these rims.

Keshav

Although originally these were fitted with 195/70/14 tires, 205’s will fit perfectly. The center caps are available thru W/N and the centers should be painted GREY

Hi Keshav,
Two have the 11/73, one 12/73, and one 1/74 , close enough on built date. Next having them repaired and refinished.
Thanks agian

As long as they are the same series...... don’t get them sand blasted as the Alloy used is soft and will remove more than you’d want. Chemical cleaning would be the better option and then painted rather than powder coated. Color Polaris Silver. The first 2 series had black centers whereas the 3rd series/ yours had a grayish center as seen in the pic above.
Last but not least all the lugnuts. If you want to go the whole 9yards then you’d want this original style nuts, available from BMW and Coupeking. Part# 36 11 1 108 947. These aren’t cheap though and a workable and far less expensive set available thru eBay.

I actually have those lug nuts on my current e9 with the 16" Alpinas. I like them much better than the ones with a cap.

Wow, that is a heck of a find! Did you find them in Iran? Was there ever a CSL in Iran? Was it lost to rust or accident? These could be very valuable to someone if you decide to go with 16s non-CSL 14s.

Yes, in Iran. They were on a coupe that the previous owner took off and kept. I have seen these on three other coupes here. I guess they were popular to coupe owners back then, and dealer may have imported them.
Through research, there were at least 3-4 CSLs here, including a Schnitzer. Whereabouts are unknown, but more than likely, they were taken out in the early years after the revelation, along with many others.

The green Iranian Schnitzer CSL was an extraordinary car, apparently.
Its ex-owner (before 1979) says that the car had a weight of only 1060kg.
Dos it still exist ? Who knows...

I met the owner at a junk yard in SunValley about 16 years ago. He was German and lived in Iran before the revolution. He gave me a few names to try to find the car, but all dead end. Then few a years back, he told another friend that someone found the car, and I still haven't been able to locate it. But looking.

Then, there was another race CSL, that a a friend had bought after a race at Nürburgring along with a Ford Escort. I know that car went through a series of unfortunate mishaps and finally got destroyed. Only have this picture from someone's album. But, I am after the title to have the VIN info. The Escort though still exists and being restored.

Hi Yannick,
Remember telling you about that Aplina CSL when I first came back to Iran? Couldn't find it. When I did, the body had been sent to the crusher. The engine minus the injection system and tranny was and still being used on an e24 race car. The rest lost. I am still trying to get the title from the guy.
