Aaaah. I would've never figured that out. I guess they changed the design later? I don't think they're on the later models, not sure.

EDIT: I guess they are on the later models now that I look closer.

The hood support bar rests on it when the hood is closed.

If you get the hood supports adjusted just right you can keep them from hitting the rubber stops and wearing a hole in them. Takes a bit of fiddling though.

Looking at the picture this is a very early car as the windscreen washer jet are on the bulkhead rather than the hood!
