Thanks Sandhu. I bought this mag online the minute I saw your first post. Thanks to the incredible tech world we now live in, all these car mags have fantastic app based systems. You can buy and download any issue as soon as released. Then read at any time on your iPad. Many titles available and there are a few good back issues featuring e9/CSL/Bat articles. Personally I find BMWCar one of the best mags - covers both new and classic BMers.

The "rot spots" graphic is amazing,

I agree with what others said why not just say "everywhere" ;-)

So good I went out and bought the.... magazine

Thanks for flagging!

One question arising, where on the transmission case would I find the VIN?

I very much doubt my 4-spd is original, but I should at least have a look

There is no VIN or ID number on the transmission.

Thanks, so I'm still matching numbers then..... phew!

You would have thought c&sc was better than inventing random "facts" like that. Still a good article though

...and thanks Sandhu for vintage E9 write-up

I have various old copies of the UK CSL Club Mag from the 80's and this is a 4-sale page. (One CSL ad even makes special mention of having a ‘radio cassette’ - what a revolution in the 80’s!)

Even though the CSL's in those days were relatively cheap, there was still a strong club scene and comaraderie amongst UK CSL owners. The club magazines are full of passionate stories, events and technical advise amongst CSL owners. Also many of the 1980's CSL owners appear to be long term and there are also plenty of examples of CSL club members buying and selling cars amongst themselves. Plus even examples of the same owners buying their cars back (as was the case with mine. My original owner sold it and then bought it back 3 years later).
