I just had the head rebuilt with new guides and I want to make sure the cover on the rear of the head has the thick washer on the correct bolt. Paul Cain says if it is on the wrong one an oil leak is sure to come. Can anyone confirm the proper location? Thanks in advance.

3:00 is correct. When the cam cover is off it is obvious where it belongs.
Smart to ask before sticking the head on!
Careful to not overtighten as the gasket is prone to splitting.
For those who need to replace the gasket while the head is still attached-
remove fan clutch
remove tranny support
jack up rear of tranny
cam cover is now ready to remove.

It is not just a spacer- it is a compression seal that keeps oil from squirting from behind the cam cover and past the bolt. That area behind the bolt and seal is a oil passage between the cam journal and the right/rear rocker arm shaft.
