Thanks Dan.....wow, so much for Copart steals. I know you buy a lot; sight unseen there. Looks like the market is more for people willing to part expensive cars such as Porsche's etc. Is that kind of your take being that you buy there a lot? Or quick flippers but so much hidden stuff I would think that is a huge risk.
They have so many different sellers and vehicles now that you get just about every type of buyer. The simplest way to put it is that for the late model insurance wrecks that are used primarily for parts, LKQ (billion dollar corp) sets the baseline with every auction. If they need inventory it's very difficult to buy those types of vehicles that day, so the key is to be prepared every day so if they don't need inventory you can snag some cars. The rest of the buyers are smaller recyclers and independent builders that repair the cars so the price of those cars fluctuate more. IE: LKQ doesn't go fishing and not bid on cars. Bottom line is, it's common to have over 2000 bidders logged into ONE lane at an auction with about 150-200 vehicles for sale. There may be a few deals in that group, but probably not the car you were looking at. :)

Non BMW but thought I'd post. Pre-smog Jag project, lump already installed. If it were a two door....

Just a side note on these Jaguars. Has anyone noticed the interior front and rear door panels on these Jags have a very similar chrome strip that our e9s have. As a matter of fact my interior guy used these same Jaguar strips on my 2002 door cards and the strip is better quality, better fit and cleans up much better than the 2002 and e9 interior door strips. FYI.

This location has about a dozen Japanese imports that are very cool but come with international documentation. Also says CA buyers can't purchase. Anyone familiar with this kind of thing?

Did you ever figure this out? I knew a lot of Japanese cars didn’t meet US safety standards, like crumple zones, etc., but I didn’t think Cal had different standards than Fed. I was reading through some CARB 2020 stuff to target a cheap tow/farm truck (yes, I’m a parasite), but didn’t see anything that would affect this. Just curious.

Also saw the dump of 914 shells. Like to know the story on that. And the 944 Turbo w Lindsey Engine is still sitting there w no real bids. I wish that would go away.

Why are all of these cool Copart listings anywhere but near me? This car is sharp to my eye!

Copart is still a puzzle to me. E34 insurance car near me that still has some yellow on the intake, perfect leather interior & looks cherry except for collision damage. Never gets an auction date and just sits in secondary lot for months. Maybe title issue & they don’t charge storage for large customers, but no one I talked to knew the story.

Could be part of a law suit. Insurance stores the car at copart but they tag and input every car the same in case it goes to auction. What sucks is they sometimes take the photos months prior to the auction and if you go look at it in person it has so much dust on it you can't even tell the condition of the paint.

Estimated value $15k for a '75 automatic salvage with serious body damage??? I think their estimator has serious brain damage.
Estimated Retail Value used to be called ACV or Actual Cash Value. This number is suppose to be the approximate value of the vehicle prior to the damage. ACV means the amount that the insurance company paid out. For late model vehicles we're typically paying anywhere from 10-40% of ACV/ERV numbers when they're listed by an insurance company. We glance at it and if it's reasonable we use it as a baseline. For classics it means nothing.
