This one is an interesting find, in my opinion. May be a "relatively" solid chassis; the ad lists that it has all the parts - but I see some additional items that don't belong to the car, spare items. Not that one would make a killing selling extra pieces, but it helps. I hope someone picks it up and puts it back together. There is plenty of knowledge and advice on the forum to help with where the bits go...

This is what I like the paint to look like when I buy a car. Unless paint is recent and looks great it needs to be redone anyway, why pay for "decent" looking paint when you can get a discount because it looks bad. You also have a much better idea of metal condition.

Driver's (LEFT) inner fender needs help, but 80% of E9s do:

I noticed that too. For something with "very little rust" I would hope that's the only issue. Highly unlikely.

If the forum is coming around to this being an acceptable $9K car then I'm in good shape if I ever need to dump mine in a hurry. I'm $10K all in at the moment with a fully funished running car and a garage full of goodies.

Let me start by saying I have been looking for a project like this for a long time to build my group 5 dream car. I saw this and I went to see the car today it was about an hour drive. Upon my arrival to a shop I noticed a lot of fun toys mostly Mercedes, an e46 m3 track car, 944 Turbo a 997 Turbo, 911sc, and a few other interesting cars. The shop owner Marcelo was showing the e9 for the client Charlie. He takes me to the rear of the lot and I can see from a distance a sad. sad. sad. E9. The windows down and the inside was piled with misc. trim pieces from different cars. I notice bondo cracking thoughtout the car in some parts it’s chipping a hole away and I can see through the car.

The front left fender was cracking all over the place and on the inner wheel well you can see latch awful patch work. The floors had holes in them which was to be expected. I get under the car and observe 6-8” rot along the frame rail and spotty rot throughout. I checked the other side and the same thing. The frame was past saving imo.

The good thing was that the glass was good, the rear towers looks replaced, it came with an interior (apperently redone) but it was thrown in the back of a shed years ago, and I guess it came with lights and other parts (also sat in the elements and trunk) so some money could be salvaged. The shop owner claimed that the motor ran but it hasn’t been fired up in about 5 years.

Marcelo stated that Charlie wanted him to do work in the car and he did. First he requested the car to be silver, then back to stock (burgundy.. I forget the name) then they just primed it and left it in the lot about 5 years ago.

Again I really didn’t mind a project and was convinced that this was the car for me. I was willing to put my turkis build on hold and gather what I needed for this batmobile. In the end the only parts worth saving were the ones listed above. I made him an offer of what I believed a rotten e9 was valued at and he shouted at me through the phone and said have a nice day. I politely texted him to kindly respond with a number he’s comfortable with for the car. He stated “It's nothing to workout,i got $7K into it and I'll rather keep it than loose money”

Hope it helps I’ll put some photos up

Hey Peter, thank you for making the trip out there and posting your observations. I kind of feel for the guy, Charlie (well, no - not really). My guess is that your offer was fair. If $7k is his bottom line / break even point, I don't know that this is a viable number yet. Maybe in 5 or 10 more years. Of course by that time the car will have deteriorated much more, given its open air grave out there. Sad stuff... :(

I honestly feel like he lost track of time or was too busy to complete it and now he’s thinking of how much he invested years ago without seeing it in its current state.

He will keep it AND lose money. I hear this every day from sellers, "I'd like to get out of it what I've spent trying to fix it!". Sorry, doesn't work that way.

People do tend to ignore the disasters in front of them. Hoarders do this, which is why it is a disease. I call myself a parts hoarder but I'm not really. I know hoarders and it is a serious problem. One can find countless stories of people with lawn art (aka cars in their front yard) that they won't let go of for sentimental or perceived value reasons. They would rather just keep it.

If the frame rail is that shot, I can only imagine the whole body is a mess and not worth saving.

No way he'll get $7k. Maybe $4k if he parts it out. But even then that's doubtful given the sad state of the parts.
