Hello all,
Canepa has a nice csl listed for sale.
Pics attached
https://www.flickr.com/photos/149927902@N02/sets/72157693056748731/

At first glimpse, 40cm foam Petri with wrong horn button, covers missing on the outer sides of the seats, odd color on the air filter box, no head rests, wrong rims etc! Why no front bumper nor spoiler. The non front bumper was only on the carb Csl’s. The 2275’s either had a chrome or fibreglass front bumper. Front and rear valance in black and leaving the strut towers black etc. Hope it wasn’t our resident Csl specialist guiding Mr Canepa in building this ‘one of the best ever, world class Csl’.
Knowing Canapa‘s Cars are top notch and prices reflect their quality, I’m surprised as to the lack of CSL details, coming from them.

The car has already been sold. Asking price was $225,000. It appears to be a true lightweight and not a City Pack car. BMW built an estimated 30 or so of these cars. This car has a lot of things wrong with it for such a premium price. The carpet is wrong, it should have plexiglass rear windows, stripe is way too high, plastic covers are missing that go where the old seat adjuster was, tar covers on the strut towers (WTF?), etc. All correctable, though. The car has a ways to go to be a great example. I just hope the original components are there.

I know the features and specifications that identify these cars always seem to be a moving target but aren't inside hood releases, trunk liners, trunk torsion rods features of city pack cars? Yet, non locking trunk, non opening rear widows and fiberglass bumpers are features of a lightweight. The trunk latch is riveted on so it's aluminum but some city packs had steel? Were mounts for the hood and trunk prop rods removed and hood pin holes welded shut? Even assuming stuff has been added/removed/switched I remain confused on what these cars were originally.

There is no consistency among CSLs. Features are all over the map. My car is mostly city pack, but definitely had hood pins since new. No provision at all for a hood latch. There was no passageway for the cable behind the right front shock tower, and no evidence it was removed and covered over. Some CSLs have power rear windows, mine does not. Steel trunklids were on BATs to support the heavy wing. Probably all City Pack cars had alloy trunk lids.

Mine doesn't have all of those problems and could have been bought for the same price when it was for sale. Thank goodness our "resident expert" sabotaged my Dutch sale!

I suppose I am missing something, but I didn't see the usual car-bashing that occurs here on your CSL thread?

Scott:

There was no bashing on the forum. Quite the opposite actually! All I received here on the forum were compliments. The bashing was directly to my potential buyer in the Netherlands, and by a forum member whom I shall not name, who also praised my car here on the forum. I am no longer advertising my car for sale, but I will entertain any reasonable offers and watch it continue to appreciate if I continue to keep it.

Thanks to my many friends here on the forum!

Be safe,

RogerB

Oh great to hear. Your car is beautiful, and while I typically like conservative colors, I think golf is more desirable than polaris on the CSL. Good luck with your sale, or your continued driving enjoyment.

Would a true Lightweight CSL have the slots for the bumper brackets seen in this photo?
